Who Should Direct James Bond 24?

Sam Mendes will not return for James Bond 24. I named the Oscar winning director of Skyfall the Best Franchise Savior in My Geek Oscars.

The director of the next Bond film has a daunting task after the huge critical praise and billion dollar box office success of Skyfall. Mendes set the next 007 film up for success with his introduction of a new M, Miss Moneypenny and a new Q. The next Bond film has all the trappings even screenwriter John Logan is back to pen the new adventure. Who should direct the next James Bond film?

Let’s eliminate the obvious choice. Christopher Nolan has said he would not consider taking on 007 unless there was an opportunity to start fresh with a new actor in the role. Daniel Craig is keeping the tux.

Now here are my 7 directors for 007:

Kathryn Bigelow The Oscar winning director has made tense politically charged thrillers (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) a hit list of other action packed films (Point Break, Strange Days.)

Jon Favreau The director knows how to helm action packed popcorn smashes(Iron Man, Iron Man 2) balanced with humor and heart.

Brad Bird  Yes he has a spy flick under his belt (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) but that was the freakin’ BEST MI movie of all!

Rian Johnson The man directed Looper. He should be given any film he wants!

Martin Campbell The man who restarted the Bond franchise twice (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) deserves another shot!

Danny Boyle has dismissed rumors he would direct a big budget film like a Bond movie but imagine the man behind 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire and a personal favorite of mine, Millions, helming Bond. It was be a great creative move like when the Jason Bourne film producers recruited Paul Greengrass.

Matthew Vaughn The director infused mutant teen angst with Cold War era tension (X-Men: First Class) in a stylish X-Men meets James Bond hybrid. Let’s not forget: Vaughn directed Daniel Craig in Layer Cake in the performance that made us believe in the blonde Bond.
