A diverse team of heroes unite when Earth is threatened and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are in deep space! Mighty Avengers includes Luke Cage, Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Falcon, Blue Marvel, Power Man and Monica Rambeau now code-named Spectrum.
There’s a Ronin on the roster. Echo (Maya Lopez) and Hawkeye (Clint Barton) wore the Ronin identity during the New Avengers era.
Who is the new Ronin?
“Ronin is the character find of 2013. We batted around some ideas for him with putting on the Ronin suit. We’ll find out in issue #1 why we can’t know who he is. I feel like even revealing his gender I’ve said too much. This is the man who will be Ronin. His mystery will be explored in the first year,” said Mighty Avengers writer Al Ewing.
Candidate #1: Moon Knight – Marvel keeps giving Marc Spector shot after shot at a solo series. Let’s lose the cape and cowl and make new fans love Marc as Ronin. Spector has the abilities and experience (boxer, C.I.A. agent, mercenary) and has assumed multiple “street level” identities in his war on crime.
Candidate #2: Bucky Barnes – Bucky did Steve Rogers proud as the Star-Spangled Avenger. Bucky gave up the role of Captain America when Steve returned and became the Winter Soldier again to fight enemies in Marvel’s underworld tied to his past. James lost Black Widow and now his solo book has been cancelled. As a member of the Mighty Avengers – Bucky can once again follow Steve’s example while forging his own path as a hero.
Candidate #3 The Wild Card: Before I read that Ronin would definitely be a “he” I immediately thought of this fallen hero as the new Ronin:
Victoria Hand – From SHIELD accountant to Thunderbolts Director under Norman Osborn’s Dark Reign, Victoria is skilled in espionage, strategy and logistics. Captain America gave Victoria a chance at redemption and upon her death she was hailed as “one of us” in the New Avengers finale. Oh yes, she’s dead but who stays dead in the Marvel Universe. Victoria was possessed and killed in a mystical plot of revenge against the Avengers. A reborn Victoria could be the team’s strategic and financial expert to get the supplies they need and she knows how to work government and military agencies.
