Is this the end of Clark Kent?

The “Truth” is out there in June’s Superman books from DC Comics. All the books will fall under the “Truth” banner following the post-Convergence event and relaunch.

The Man of Steel has a new creative team on his flagship title, new powers and vulnerabilities, a new costume and a new super haircut.

Is the end of Superman’s secret identity part of DC’s seismic shifts?

Truth begins in Action Comics #41 by Greg Park with the teaser,””For Superman, there’s no more holding back?”

The story continues in Superman #41 with new writer Gene Luen Yang, Batman/Superman #21 by Greg Pak and Superman/Wonder Woman #18 by Peter Tomasi.

The teaser for Yang’s first issue is “What will happen when the big secret is revealed?”

The teasers sure seem like the Man of Steel is ready to share his identity with the world.

Superman took a first step in revealing his true identity to Jimmy Olsen in the final issue by Geoff Johns. The Man of Steel’s new costume and look cuts away the famous Clark Kent curl and Kryptonian uniform. The revamped Man of Steel looks like…well a man. A very built man with a big S on this chest.

Superman is one of the rare cases of a comic book hero who takes a human guise. The alien outsider became Clark Kent to assimilate into Earth society. Yang said he’d would explore Superman’s status as an immigrant in his story. After shedding a heroic costume, will the creators shed the human identity next.

A disclosure like this could have huge ramifications for the Justice League, Superman and Wonder Woman’s relationship and how the people of Earth will feel about an alien among them.

After 75 years is Kal El ready to reveal the truth?

Is this the end of Clark Kent in what could be a creatively bold new direction for Superman?
