Major news for longtime Avengers fans.
Paul Bettany (the voice of Jarvis in Iron Man films) is getting a major upgrade.
Bettany will play the android known as the Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This casting is sure to spark speculation about the story and how Earth’s Mightiest Sequel will tie into Ant-Man.
In comics Vision was created by Ultron to infiltrate and destroy the Avengers but his programming evolved and he turned on his master. The Vision became one of the most popular members of the team. Vision would marry the Scarlet Witch but their unique marriage would eventually lead to a major tragedy for them and the team.
Elizabeth Olsen will play Scarlet Witch (Aaron Taylor-Johnson is playing her brother Quicksilver.)
One of Vision’s many abilities is to control his density and mass. The android can become intangible or nearly invulnerable giving him the power to phase through solid matter and execute a density attack – solidifying inside someone causing great pain. Special note: Vision’s brain patterns were based on Simon Williams (aka Wonder Man.) You can see Vision phasing into save his fellow heroes on this cover of Avengers #118.
In the comics Hank Pym (to be played by Michael Douglas in Ant-Man) created Ultron but director Joss Whedon has said to not be following comics continuity. I had theorized that Tony Stark’s Jarvis A.I. would evolve into Ultron and Paul Bettany would play him. James Spader will voice Ultron. But I was close!
How will Vision look in the movie? Yellow and green – maybe not but keep those red eyes!
Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in 2015.
