The Bruhl Conspiracy is on!

Daniel Bruhl has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War in an undisclosed role. Fans may jump to the idea of the European actor as a villain for the sequel but will be be the main bad guy?

Robert Downey Jr is reprising his role as Tony Stark opposite Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in the sequel directed again by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film is based on the classic story in which the government passes the Superhero Registration Act in which all super powered or costumed heroes must register, surrender their secret identity and be a paid super operative of the government. In the comic Tony sides with the government, Steve leads the resistance citing civil liberties and freedom.

It’s likely producers will take inspiration from the comic book canon but not follow it exactly like in Winter Soldier and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Who will Bruhl play?

Let’s rundown some suspects:

Baron Zemo.

Heinrich Zemo was a ruthless Nazi scientist in World War II. Helmet Zemo followed his father’s criminal legacy. This modern Zemo flirted with heroics and play the anti-hero as founder of the Thunderbolts – a team of villains masquerading as heroes – some who eventually liked be a good guy. In Civil War – a government run version of the team was made of villains hired to hunt unregistered heroes.

Baron Blood.

A wild card but hear us out. John Falsworth was a British aristocrat who became a vampire. Cap fought this Baron in World War II with the Invaders and the immortal creature of darkness returned in the modern era to strike back at Cap. Falsworth was obsessed with seeking out Dracula. Baron Blood could appear in this film setting the stage for a supernatual showdown in Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme’s list of enemies include Dracula, Lilith and an army of vampires.

Taskmaster.

A ruthless operative for hire with photographic reflexes and superb fighting skills able to mimic the moves of any opponent he studies. This villain is hired by criminal organizations (and also S.H.I.E.L.D.) to train their operatives. The Taskmaster (real name unknown) could be an evil version of Nick Fury, a mystery man who could appear in multiple Marvel films of phase three and on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. giving his willingness to work for any side who will pay him.

Doctor Faustus.

A psychiatrist and criminal genius who worked with Red Skull and Arnim Zola. Faustus convinced Sharon Carter she assassinated Steve in the Civil War finale.

The last Cap spectacle included Batroc, Brock Rumlow, Arnim Zola and the treacherous Alexander Pierce so Bruhl could be a supporting villain in the next film.

Captain America: Civil War opens May 6, 2016.
