Rick Remender is operating on a different level as he blows up anything, anyone and blows your mind doing it in Uncanny Avengers. Major showdowns that are the finales of most event books happen in every issue.
As we said in the comic book shop this week Remender just don’t care. I don’t mean he doesn’t care about the story he’s crafting. He doesn’t care about keeping certain characters and concepts sacred. No hero is safe. Anything can happen.
Expect the unexpected. Expect to be upset when X-Men and Avengers die. Expect bizarre twists and turns that blow your senses but aren’t just for shock value. The madness and chaos is all part of the plan as Remender boomerangs you right back to the core and awesome ah-ha moments from the beginning of his run.
In Uncanny Avengers #16 it’s the showdown we’ve been cheering for as Captain America and Thor deliver some serious payback to the Apocapyse Twins. Not only have Kang’s disciples killed Scarlet Witch, Rogue, Wonder Man, Sunfire, Havok and Wolverine – the twins have framed humanity for murder. Sound weird? This isn’t just evil mutants, good mutants and costumed super heroes – this is a frame up of cosmic proportions. The Apocalypse Twins want to rapture the mutants to a new world and let the humans of Earth get roasted.
The fight between Cap, Thor and the Twins is action packed showing Steve is the ultimate strategist and that you do not kill the friends of a Thunder God! There’s so much thought put in as you see Thor connect the cosmic dots that this battle is his own actions back to haunt him. There’s so much Marvel history and seeds from Remender’s Uncanny X-Force run. Just when you think Thor vs. the Apocalypse Twins was one hell of a battle – the tease is set for the real main event.
