The original Ultimates were the Avengers of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. In the aftermath of Secret Wars Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Spectrum, Miss America and Blue Marvel form a new Ultimates, a new kind of team for the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now.
One of our top new Marvel books we’re most excited about is Ultimates.
Ultimates writer Al Ewing says this is a pro-active team using science to stop threats before they happen but that will cause conflict.
“There are going to be some moral debates—when the problems you’re dealing with are sentient or even above-sentient cosmic creatures, how do you ‘solve’ them?” he questions. “At the same time, someone’s got to deal with these long-running, world-threatening issues. You can put up with a leaky roof if you have to—you can’t put up with a collapsing house.” Ewing told Marvel.com.
“Science and exploration feels like something very positive, a general good—it helps mitigate some of those moral concerns,” continues the writer. “I think an emphasis on expanding knowledge makes the team a lot more interesting and sympathetic than, say, a mission to beat people up in the name of preserving the current social order.”
Ewing said to watch for Adam and Monica’s chemistry to build while Adam will have “drama” with T’Challa.
As for Galactus? Ewing remained top secret on the meaning of the big purple suited bad guy on the cover.
