Tom Hiddleston portrays Loki for the third time in Thor: The Dark World. After the events of The Avengers Loki sits in prison and Thor has lost any brotherly love he ever had.

We’ve established the [Thor and Loki] characters across two films,” he says. “So it means you can color in more shades with each character. Thor can get darker as a character…[and] it means that Loki can get even more [complex].” the actor tells Marvel.com.

The threat of a greater evil leads the God of Thunder to ask his half brother for help against Malekith and the Dark Elves.

“Thor’s attitude has to change, ” says Hiddleston. “Therefore Loki’s attitude has to change. And [their] relationship to each other–their need for each other–their antipathy, opposition to and from, is constantly changing. These archetypal forces of dark and light…[are] flickering between the two.”

The actor is so loved for his portrayal of the trickster that Marvel began a petition for the villain to star in his own film.

“Other people can have their opinion…about where Loki should go, but I’ve lived through every moment,” Hiddleston says. “I’m the only one who’s played him. Other people have written him; other people have [directed] him; other people have framed him; but I know his inside, and that’s really exciting…[and] I have had a bit of input into [the character]. It’s really great.”

The big burning question: What is Loki’s history and connection to Malekith? Why does the God of Mischief and Lies know that makes Thor turn to him for help?  We’ll find out in Thor: The Dark World opening November 8th.
