Hulk vs Thor!

Marvel shared a new synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok which confirms the next Odinson movie will be a contest of champions:

“In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkinds reprise their roles as Thor, Loki and Odin. Idris Elba is back as Heimdall.

Cate Blanchett will play Hella, known in comics as the Goddess of Death and Queen of the Underworld. Jeff Goldblum is The Grandmaster. In comics this character is connected to The Collector (who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy) as Elders of the Universe. Tessa Thompson joins the Thor-verse as Valkyrie and Karl Urban is Skurge, the Executioner.

Mark Ruffalo reprises his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk.

From the synopsis, it looks like the next Marvel adventure takes inspiration from Planet Hulk, where the Green Goliath fought in gladiator games on an alien world, and Contest of Champions, fights orchestrated by The Grandmaster.

Thor appeared in the post-credits of Doctor Strange seeking the Sorcerer Supreme’s aide. In the finale of Thor: The Dark World, Thor thought Loki died in the battle against Malekith but was really impersonating his father Odin, who delivered an Infinity Stone to The Collector. Will Stephen Strange appear?

In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the Fall of Gods. An ominous title for the next chapter on the road to Avengers: Infinity War and eventual showdown with Thanos.

Thor: Ragnarok hits November 3rd.
