Where will the survivors of The Walking Dead go next?
AMC TV revealed the poster for the Season 5 Midseason premiere featuring the map Abraham gave Rick with this route to Washington, D.C.
“The new world’s gonna need Rick Grimes” is a phrase from Morgan, last seen tracking Rick’s group and discovering a map at the ashes of Terminus.
The group split with Abraham heading to Washington, D.C. in search of a possible cure until they rejoined the others for the fateful showdown in Atlanta.
This map could signal Rick’s group is moving to the D.C. area after all.
The showrunner hints what the map means to Morgan (Lennie James) as he trails Rick.
“He has this massive breadcrumb. Now, Rick and his group aren’t necessarily on their way to D.C. but it’s something. Morgan knows Rick Grimes could be alive and could be somewhere nearby and perhaps on that path. It’s something. Morgan sat there and he prayed [in the church] and then he laughed at the idea of praying and then he found that map. So perhaps it’s divine intervention,” Showrunner Scott Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the books the group is recruited to join the Alexandria Safe-Zone in the D.C. suburbs.
Creator Robert Kirkman’s comments on The Talking Dead midseason finale was a hint of the direction of the show’s future.
The Walking Dead returns February 8.
