John Wesley Shipp will be playing Barry Allen’s father in the upcoming series The Flash on The CW. He played the Scarlet Speedster in a short-lived CBS series in the 1990’s. Grant Gustin will play the DC Comics hero in the upcoming series.
“Given his history with The Flash, Andrew [Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry’s father and that was John Wesley Shipp,” executive producer Greg Berlanti told The Hollywood Reporter The Live Feed. “He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot, and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes.”
The premiere episode will have a guest appearance by Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) from Arrow, where Gustin first played Allen.
