Emperor of zombie fiction George Romero brings his next undead epic to Marvel Comics. The writer/director teams up with Alex Maleev for Empire of the Dead #1.

At New York Comic Con the legendary creator talks with Marvel.com about working in the comic medium:

“I grew up reading comics and I’ve always loved them,” Romero says. “The good ones stretch the imagination. Writing a comic book does the same thing for me. It encourages me to explore new ideas and characters that I might not have tried otherwise. I can turn off the part of my brain that’s always worrying about how to do things, like how I’m going to shoot a particular scene or how much it’s going to cost. Of course, that time may come, if we adapt EMPIRE OF THE DEAD for other media.” Continue reading George Romero Talks EMPIRE OF THE DEAD

WORLD WAR Z Sequels?

World War Z finally hits theaters. The film follows a United Nations worker’s global journey to discover the cause and possible cure of a zombie outbreak. Brad Pitt produced and stars in the film based on the book by Max Brooks. Pitt

“He’s a normal guy who finds out that every country is affected and no one knows what to do,” the actor tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The film and book are very different. When asked about sequels Pitt responded:

“There is enough to mine from the book. We could barely get a fraction of the book in. So we’ll see. We’ll see.”

Here’s the trailer: Continue reading WORLD WAR Z Sequels?

X-Men #1 features an all-female team by Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel but Deadpool is stealing the show in this variant cover. Marvel shared this sneak peek at Arthur Suydam’s (Marvel Zombies) homage to a classic rock and roll image with this cover starring the Merc with a Mouth and a team of the undead.

I bet we can expect a X-Babies cover from Skottie Young soon?

X-Men #1 arrives May 29th.

Kitty Pryde and Iron Man?

A+X #2 courtesy Marvel

Will Tony Stark hit on Kitty Pryde?

A+X is a fun new series in the spirit of old school team-up books like (Marvel Team-Up which starred Spidey and a different guest star each issue and Marvel-Two-In-One which co-starred the Thing.) In the aftermath of Avengers versus X-Men this is a way to let the healing begin and for fans to enjoy some unlikely duos in action together.

This week A+X #2 brings together Iron Man and Kitty Pryde against the Brood! How will the genius inventor and the X-Men’s computer wiz defeat the alien invaders? Will playboy Tony Stark resist flirting with Kitty? Good thing she’s got a dragon to burn away Brood and unwanted suitors!

A+X #2 will feature Spider-Man and the Beast against…zombies? Maybe they should call Doctor Strange for a consult?

WORLD WAR Z Trailer! Brad Pitt vs. Zombies

World War Z cover courtesy Max Books Zombie World

Max Brooks is a storytelling genius. I absolutely love World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. A United Nations worker chronicles the outbreak, spread of the zombie apocalypse and how survivors fought back. The film is said to be different from the book with a more narrative story.

Brad Pitt stars in movie based on the book. Here’s a the trailer for World War Z:

This trailer looks like it does not follow the book but as a zombie fanatic I’m thrilled to see a high-profile star like Brad Pitt wanting to work (he’s a producer too) with the genre and see that’s it more than just horror. Zombie fiction always reflects on humanity and sometimes the living are more dangerous than the undead.

James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and Mireille Enos co-star in the Paramount film directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace)  Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) worked on the script.
World War Z opens in June 2013.

Thanks Dark Horizons.

If you haven’t read the book here’s a link. I also highly recommend The Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks – both by Brooks. And if Books comes to your local comicon – get in line! He’s worth the wait!

Avengers vs. Zombies!

Marvel Universe vs. The Avengers courtesy Marvel.com

This week Jonathan Maberry is taking you back to a horrific future filled with heroes turned zombies. The man behind Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher and Marvel Universe vs. Wolverine returns with Marvel Universe vs. The Avengers.

What’s left of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes fights to survive a plague ravaged planet. Maberry tells Marvel.com the horror hits home for Hawkeye.

“The story is intensely personal, as all stories of great cultural trauma,” the writer asserts. “These are horror stories, and MARVEL UNIVERSE VS THE AVENGERS takes the horror down to a very personal level. We are no longer witnessing the world’s hurt or the cultural hurt, we’re inside the head –and heart—of a man who is experiencing the most personal kind of hurt.”

“The story is told from Hawkeye’s perspective, but most of the big guns are there: Thor, Hulk—red and green versions—Iron Man, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, and others,” reveals Maberry. “We also check in on the kids at Avengers Academy. The events in these four issues cut a bloody swath across the entire Avengers landscape.”

Leandro Fernandez is the artist on this four part series. Part One is out this week. For more of his interview here’s the Marvel.com link.
