Marjorie Liu says goodbye to the mutants this week in Astonishing X-Men #68. From a milestone marriage to twisted sisters to a multidimensional apocalypse to a really big Iceman – Liu crafted some astonishing tales of mutants in love and war.

Fan favorite bad boys Wolverine and Gambit were on the team but I applaud Liu for letting some forgotten favorites take the lead. It was a joy to see New Mutant Karma and Cecilia Reyes back in action. Xi’an was the center of the first arc that saw her turned against her friends in bitter family feud from stretched from New York to Madripoor. It’s Back to the Future in this week’s exciting new chapter of Battle of the Atom!

Here’s the score:

Beast brought the original five X-Men to present to convince Cyclops to end his mutant revolution. Horrified by their future – the kids refused to go back.

X-Men from the future arrived at the Jean Grey School declaring the kids must go back to prevent a terrible future for mutants.

Young Jean and Scott took off. The modern X-Men agreed with the future team (which includes an adult Jean and Professor X’s son.)

A suspicious Magik (along with young Beast and Iceman) has transported to that future to find a very different group of X-Men.

You could call Chapter Six a slight detour as we meet more future mutants and discover a terrifying moment in future history.

James McAvoy reprises his X-Men: First Class role as Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The star praises the upcoming film and director in a new interview with IGN.

“There’s an army of brilliant actors in that film. Bryan Singer is back at the helm. Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they’ve ever had. I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they’re definitely going for it. Continue reading James McAvoy on X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
