It’s Professor Xavier vs. Jean Grey…like you’ve never seen it before.

In the Dark Phoenix Saga, the Professor and Dark Phoenix engaged in the greatest psychic duel of any century. Xavier “won” but we know the rest of the story – death, rebirth, reconnection and the second death of Jean.

In All-New X-Men #29 Professor Xavier’s son and the original Jean engage in a psychic battle as Xavier’s Continue reading JEAN GREY vs. XAVIER In ALL-NEW X-MEN Preview

RICK REMENDER On MARVEL AXIS

Original Sin is at the halfway mark but Marvel is plotting it’s next big event.

Avengers and X-Men AXIS sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Children of the Atom together against the mutated power of the Red Skull. The Captain America villain stole Professor Xavier’s brain and harnessed his telepathic powers in a new war on mutants in the early pages of Uncanny Avengers. From early promo art it appears Red Skull has united Marvel’s greatest villains.

Writer Rick Remender and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort revealed more details and answered fan questions in a special Marvel liveblog. Here are some big highlights. Continue reading RICK REMENDER On MARVEL AXIS

Avengers & X-Men: AXIS pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Children of the Atom against the Red Skull. The Marvel event begins this Fall by Rick Remender and crosses over into other titles.

One of the most anticipated battles will happen in the pages of the Magneto solo book in the March to AXIS. Magneto’s parents were killed by the Nazis so that’s reason enough for Erik to hate the Red Skull but there’s an even more powerful reason: the Red Skull stole the brain of Charles Xavier. Writer Cullen Bunn told Comic Book Resources how he’s getting in Magneto’s head for the big fight. Continue reading MARVEL AXIS: MAGNETO Vs. RED SKULL

THE NEXT WOLVERINE Part II

Logan will be killed in Death of Wolverine by Charles Soule and Steve McNiven. Marvel says it’s serious about killing off the fan-favorite X-Man. The final journey began this week as Three Months To Die began in Wolverine #8 by Paul Cornell and Kris Anka.

While the story potential of a World Without Wolverine is incredible, this geek has a burning question: Could someone else become the next Wolverine?

In an earlier chapter I explored how Logan’s arch-enemy Sabretooth could assume the role. If Doc Ock could become a Superior Spider-Man, could one of Logan’s rivals become a Savage, Ruthless or Superior Wolverine?

What about Daken? Continue reading THE NEXT WOLVERINE Part II

Writer Rick Remender and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort talked with USA Today about the upcoming Marvel event starring the Red Skull.

Brevoort calls it “kind of a Michael Bay movie. It’s big and spectacular and has a ton of full-out bombast.” Continue reading RICK REMENDER Reveals MARVEL AXIS

X-MEN: EMMA FROST OF FUTURE PAST

Spoiler Warning:

This story contains plot details of X-Men: Days of Future Past so you may not want to continue reading if you have not seen the new film.

Is this the cinematic end of Miss Emma Frost?

Emma appeared briefly in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine as the captured sister of Kayla (aka Silver Fox) played by Lynn Collins. We can assume it was Emma since she was icy blonde and could transform into diamond. The infamous Emma Frost of the Hellfire Club era was played by January Jones in X-Men: First Class. This was absolutely the telepath who could transform into diamond and was the lover of Sebastian Shaw.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past Mystique learns that Emma died as a prisoner of Bolivar Trask along with some other characters from First Class.

Does that mean, “No More Emma” in future X-Men movies? Continue reading X-MEN: EMMA FROST OF FUTURE PAST

NIGHTCRAWLER VILLAINS For Your Consideration

Nightcrawler (my personal favorite X-Man) is not just back in the land of the living – he’s fun again. Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men run built up Amazing X-Men and the return of Kurt Wagner.

Now writer Chris Claremont and artist Todd Nauck are bringing us Kurt’s new adventures in a solo series starring the Fuzzy Elf. Nightcrawler #3 is out this week as Kurt races across the globe trying to rescue loved ones from his past. The legendary writer takes great supporting characters from Kurt’s pages like Amanda Sefton  and Margali Zdardos to spin a fast paced and fun new thriller.
