As we celebrate Mother’s Day let’s look at some of the most malicious moms of comics. These mothers don’t just give out tough love, they became mortal enemies of their children. Spare the flowers for these crazy matrons. Let’s start with the most ruthless mother to ever mystify, manipulate and murder (attempted) the X-Men:

Mystique

Raven Darkholme is the actual mother of Nightcrawler and Graydon Creed and foster mother of Rogue. Raven abandoned baby Kurt an as an infant. Kurt has attempted to make peace and learn why his own mother could leave him to die but Raven only gives him cruel coldness. Kurt actually got off easy compared to Mystique’s other kids.
