WORLD WAR Z Review

The Zombie Apocalypse is coming to your home. World War Z is out on Blu-Ray.

World War Z is a triumph after all and a brilliant new addition to the zombie genre. Brad Pitt plays our tour guide in a new world going to undead hell. Pitt’s hero takes us to the darkest depths where life has been forsaken and pockets of humanity where hope desperately tries to remain alive. Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a United Nations investigator who left behind a career traveling to the world’s most dangerous war zones. When the undead attack the living and multiply at an uncontrollable rate Lane gets his family to safety and gets recruited by his former employers to lead a search for the cause and possible cure to the outbreak.

In so many ways this is not a “zombie” movie and certainly different from any zombie movie you’ve seen before. It’s a frantic Continue reading WORLD WAR Z Review

WORLD WAR Z Sequels?

World War Z finally hits theaters. The film follows a United Nations worker’s global journey to discover the cause and possible cure of a zombie outbreak. Brad Pitt produced and stars in the film based on the book by Max Brooks. Pitt

“He’s a normal guy who finds out that every country is affected and no one knows what to do,” the actor tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The film and book are very different. When asked about sequels Pitt responded:

“There is enough to mine from the book. We could barely get a fraction of the book in. So we’ll see. We’ll see.”

Here’s the trailer: Continue reading WORLD WAR Z Sequels?

Comic Book & Sci Fi Movies of 2013

Will the OSCARS celebrate sci-fi, comic book or horror ever again? Avatar was the most recent sci-fi film to be nominated for an Academy Award. Looper should have a contender at least for screenplay. Oscar buzz inspired this list of my most anticipated genre movies in 2013. These flicks have not receive Oscars but could be next year’s Geek Oscar contenders:

#10 Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller take us back to the notorious haven of crime, corruption and women with dangerous curves! Eva Green as Ava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin join the hard-core citzens of Basin City! October 29.

#9 Oblivion Tom Cruise is a repairman of the future who finds a clan of humans (led by Morgan Freeman) on what’s supposed to be a scorched Earth! This new film from director Joseph Kosinski looks action packed and thought-provoking. April 19.

#8 Kick-Ass 2 Sadistic, satirical and twisted! More “real” superheroics from the mind of Mark Millar. Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes is among the new citizen heroes that follows Kick-Ass’s crusade but the Red Mist is plotting vengeance against the vigilantes! June 28.

#7 World War Z I absolutely love the book by Max Brooks. I already know the film is very different from the novel. It really should have been a cable series like the Band of Brothers of zombies. I choose to believe in the Pitt…Brad Pitt! June 21.

#6 Pacific Rim Guillerno del Toro. Giant Robots. Giant Monsters. They had me with del Toro and giant anything! July 12.

#5 Thor: The Dark World Chris Hemsworth portrays the Odinson again as Thor returns to Asgard! Malekitch (Christopher Eccleston of Doctor Who fame) leads the Dark Elves and the powerhouse Kurse! Will Loki be forgiven of his crimes in The Avengers? This cosmic clash is sure to be action packed and could include more of the Shakespearean family drama as Loki could find a shot at redemption. November 8.

#4 Iron Man 3 Even after The Avengers I still believe fans want to see Robert Downey, Jr solo. Tony Stark’s world is obliterated by his arch-enemy. This third film unleashes the Mandarin (Oscar winner Ben Kingsley) and introduces the threat of Extremis and the Iron Patriot armor. The trailer is dark but I’m excited to see Shane Black direct a great performance out of Downey as a dethroned Tony fights his way back. May 3.

#3 The Wolverine I believe this is the movie that will be the definitive Wolverine story! The X-Man will faces an army of ninjas, the Silver Samurai and the woman who will change his life. Based on the classic series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller and directed by James Mangold – this could be Continue reading Comic Book & Sci Fi Movies of 2013

WORLD WAR Z Trailer! Brad Pitt vs. Zombies

World War Z cover courtesy Max Books Zombie World

Max Brooks is a storytelling genius. I absolutely love World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. A United Nations worker chronicles the outbreak, spread of the zombie apocalypse and how survivors fought back. The film is said to be different from the book with a more narrative story.

Brad Pitt stars in movie based on the book. Here’s a the trailer for World War Z:

This trailer looks like it does not follow the book but as a zombie fanatic I’m thrilled to see a high-profile star like Brad Pitt wanting to work (he’s a producer too) with the genre and see that’s it more than just horror. Zombie fiction always reflects on humanity and sometimes the living are more dangerous than the undead.

James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and Mireille Enos co-star in the Paramount film directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace)  Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) worked on the script.
World War Z opens in June 2013.

Thanks Dark Horizons.

If you haven’t read the book here’s a link. I also highly recommend The Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks – both by Brooks. And if Books comes to your local comicon – get in line! He’s worth the wait!
