AvX: Colossus Unleashed in Avengers Vs. X-Men #2

Avengers Vs. X-Men #2 courtesy Marvel

Ever since Colossus became the Juggernaut in order to defeat a Serpent fused Cain Marko during the Fear Itself event, it’s become easier and easier for him to summon the power. Peter is slipping deeper into the dark side. In order to defeat some of the Avengers big guns like Red Hulk and Thing, Colossus will have to tap into the force and it might consume him forever.

Marvel gave fans a first look interior art from Avengers Vs. X-Men #2 by Jason Aaron and John Romita Jr. It looks like Cyclops has unleashed Colossus on what might be a SHIELD helicarrier or Avengers jet. The Red Hulk responds accordingly.

To pick a winner in this fight is easy: I want Colossus to beat the red off this Hulk! I love Peter Rasputin but I think the Cyttorak power has taken him over. The price Peter has paid for victory in Fear Itself and AvX may be his soul.

Something else to point out in these pages is Wolverine appears to be with the Avengers when Colossus attacks. Does this mean Logan switches sides or is he caught in the wrong place, wrong time while trying to play peacemaker?

Kitty Pryde’s Pregnancy Conclusion

Wolverine and X-Men #7 courtesy Marvel

Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw deliver one hell of a lesson in biology and evolution in the final chapter of their outrageously fun arc of Wolverine and the X-Men.

The mystery of Kitty Pryde’s freaky pregnancy is resolved and the promise of a new X-couple is kindled. Sorry, Colossus fans. Even with an army of aliens at war with her teammate inside her body, Kitty is pure bad ass against the mastermind invading her body and the school.

The bamfs (imagine Gremlins but as baby Nightcrawlers) have been comedic troublemakers but demonstrate their power in this issue’s showdown. My favorite character in the series so far really shines. Broo is the target of a sinister and cruel experiment in evolution. I cheered for him and felt his pain.

While Beast, Rachel, Kitty and Iceman have been having inner space exploits, Wolverine and Quentin Quire had their own adventure in outer space…at a casino. This is my favorite X-book because it’s pure fun.

Astonishing X-Men’s New Writer, New Controversy

Astonishing X-Men #48 interior art courtesy Marvel.com

One of the most anticipated X change is Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins taking on Astonishing X-Men with issue #48. The unique line-up includes Wolverine, Iceman, Gambit, Warbird, Karma and Northstar. The writer says she will show the characters lives away from the X-Men. Today Liu told Marvel.com how this cast of characters came together.

“They’re all in the wrong place at the wrong time, basically, but being X-Men, they’re not the types to turn away from a dangerous situation. What none of them realize, of course, is that working together will lead them into some very unfamiliar—and uncomfortable—situations

I’m excited Northstar found a home with the X-Men after Alpha Flight’s cancellation. Liu expanded on why she brought Jean-Paul back with the mutants:

“Northstar has so much to offer in terms of character; not just his personality, but where he is now, where he wants to be, who he might become under certain circumstances. All of which will be addressed in these first two arcs. Also, despite being a powerhouse of experience when it comes to this super hero gig, he’s also a bit unpredictable; his emotions get the better of him, sometimes, and that’s very interesting to play with when he’s under pressure.”

Marvel said the arc will be the most controversial story of the year. Liu said one character will be changed forever but she has a long-term plan in mind.

“There’s a long-term mystery playing out over the first two arcs that establishes these individual X-Men as a real team. We have fights, deaths [and] explosions, but in many ways it’s a very intimate story, and by that, I mean these characters will literally live and die based on the strength of their relationships to one another. There’s an enemy, of course, but the battle against this individual’s machinations will force the X-Men to look inward, and at each other, in ways that may be very uncomfortable, and illuminating.”

Wolverine and the X-Men’s Nick Bradshaw & Kitty Pryde Gives Birth?

Wolverine and the X-Men #7 art courtesy Marvel

Wolverine and the X-Men by Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw is my favorite book right now and a pure joyride with action, humor and outrageous storylines.

Here’s a quick recap:

Wolverine built the Jean Grey School for young mutants after his schism with Cyclops. Kitty is pregnant – sort of. Beast and some kids are inside Kitty’s body trying to save her. Logan and Kid Omega – that brat – are in an outer space casino cheating at gambling to get money to keep the school open. There’s a nice Brood student who talks and won’t eat you. The school is being invaded by an army of Brood – the nasty kind you know and hate.

Oh yeah – there are these baby nightcrawler looking things that steal Logan’s whiskey and are kind of like the Gremlins of the school. Continue reading Wolverine and the X-Men’s Nick Bradshaw & Kitty Pryde Gives Birth?

Kitty Pryde’s Pregnancy and Wolverine’s Gamble

Wolverine and the X-Men #6 interior art courtesy Marvel

An adventure in inner space and outer space for the students and staff of the Jean Grey School. Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw turn the joyride up several notches in Wolverine and the X-Men #6.

Kitty Pryde’s mystery pregnancy is revealed. Beast and Rachel are inside the headmistress giving some students the most bizarre biology class/field trip in comic book history! Kitty’s condition is connected to my favorite new character Broo. Kitty’s body is under attack and now the entire school is invaded.

Odd couple Wolverine and Quentin Quire are in outer space trying to beat the house at an intergalactic casino that Jabba the Hutt would frequent. The duo hopes to win enough money to save the school.

Aaron is a masterful at keeping the drama, action and tension high yet still keeping it brisk with moments of humor that fit perfectly. I’ve said before how Bradshaw reminds me of Art Adams. I was tremendously impressed by the detail on the variety of alien races inside the space casino and the Brood back at the school. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. It’s the most fun I’ve had with a superhero comic.
