X-Men Field Trip! Wolverine’s Redneck Brother!

Wolverine and the X-Men #25 courtesy Marvel

Wolverine takes his students to the Savage Land. A man named Dog could be more dangerous than any of that lost world’s dinosaurs! That Dog is Logan’s brother from Origin!

In This week’s Wolverine and the X-Men#25 Jason Aaron and Ramon Perez continue tradition of mutants in the Savage Land. My first comic book was Uncanny X-Men #116 To Save the Savage Land when the mutants teamed up with Ka-Zar against Garokk.

“The arc drawn by Ramon Perez in the Savage Land is not your typical Savage Land arc. It’s about Wolverine’s brother, Dog, showing up. Though if you’re an X-Man, fighting dinosaurs in the Savage Land is a rite of passage,” Aaron said.

You heard right – Wolverine’s brother.

“Dog is a tragic character. He was raised by an abusive father, watching his brother grow up in the house on the hill. I’m enjoying writing Continue reading X-Men Field Trip! Wolverine’s Redneck Brother!

Old Wolverine, X-Men, Villains Galore!

I’ve always loved those “things to come” splash pages in the X-books! Marvel is taking the teaser tradition and putting the dark prediction on the cover! Take at look at the variant cover for this week’s Wolverine and the X-Men #25! In this issue Wolverine takes the students on a field trip to the Savage Land where they’ll encounter Logan’s brother, Dog! This variant shows the rogues gallery and a blast from the future past:

That sure looks like Old Man Logan from the (well) Old Man Logan arc from Mark Millar’s Wolverine run. As for the Old Man Logan’s sidekick? Its looks like a hybrid of Anole covered in Mercury aka Cesily Kincaid. Here’s a weird thought Continue reading Old Wolverine, X-Men, Villains Galore!

HULK SMASH WOLVERINE!

Get ready for a savage rematch! Wolverine made his Marvel debut back in Incredible Hulk #181. The Green Goliath and feral mutant have crossed paths over the years.

Frank Cho unleashes the beasts in Savage Wolverine #5. So far Logan has been speared by Shanna the She-Devil in his Savage Land exploits but this May the Hulk smashes his way into the X-Man’s adventure.

“Frank’s art and storytelling set this fight apart more than anything else. This was one of the first sequences he wrote when we were first talking about the issue, so there are some specific moments he’s thought out that I think fans are going to love,” said editor Jeanine Schaefer on Marvel.com.

“Honestly, working with Frank is such a blast. He has a total vision Continue reading HULK SMASH WOLVERINE!

First Villain of All-New X-MEN

The young Scott Summers goes on a solo mission of hope and heartbreak and runs into one of the greatest X-Men’s greatest enemies he hasn’t fought yet in this week’s All-New X-Men #7.

Mystique smells fresh blood and never misses an opportunity to manipulate. The shapeshifter targets Cyclops with unexpected results. There are moments when you think the innocence of the boy who will become Cyclops might just charm Raven. That’s the beauty of Brian Michael Bendis’s storytelling. Bringing the past into the present has infused the X-Men family with fresh energy and emotion. Don’t tell me you didn’t choke up on that final page. Bendis goes right  Continue reading First Villain of All-New X-MEN

My Most Anticipated 2013 Movies

A Super Bowl packed with movie trailers inspired this list of my most anticipated genre movies in 2013:

#10 Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller take us back to the notorious haven of crime, corruption and women with dangerous curves! Eva Green as Ava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin join the hard-core citzens of Basin City! October 29.

#9 Oblivion Tom Cruise is a repairman of the future who finds a clan of humans (led by Morgan Freeman) on what’s supposed to be a scorched Earth! This new film from director Joseph Kosinski looks action packed and thought-provoking. April 19.

#8 Kick-Ass 2 Sadistic, satirical and twisted! More “real” superheroics from the mind of Mark Millar. Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes is among the new citizen heroes that follows Kick-Ass’s crusade but the Red Mist is plotting vengeance against the vigilantes! June 28.

#7 World War Z  I absolutely love the book by Max Brooks. I already know the film is very different from the novel. It really should have been a cable series like the Band of Brothers of zombies. I choose to believe in the Pitt…Brad Pitt! June 21.

#6 Pacific Rim Guillerno del Toro. Giant Robots. Giant Monsters. They had me with del Toro and giant anything! July 12.

Hugh Jackman Suits Up In New THE WOLVERINE Image!

Logan goes to Japan in The Wolverine. The berserker mutant trades in his leather uniform for a James Bond style suit in this new image courtesy Empire.

Producer Hutch Parker revealed more about the plot in this new issue.

“We pick up Logan in a very isolated state, full of self-loathing. He is sought out by a young Asian woman for reasons he doesn’t fully understand, who is asking him to follow her to Japan where he is meant to reconnect with someone from his past.

“And what you’ll come to find is that this is someone he spent prison-time with in Nagasaki. And the legacy of that experience – effectively Logan saved him – is that this man is on his deathbed, and is looking to give him a gift, to thank him for the life he’s had.”

“But this gift draws Logan into a very complex and very unexpected world within both contemporary Japan and, to some extent, the feudal history of Japan. He’s so in isolation, so out of his element. It’s a much more powerful distillation of his character than you’ve seen before.”
