The battle begins this Wednesday!  For the X-Men’s 50th Anniversary Marvel is using a tried and true formula to celebrate the mutants. X-Men history is packed with time travel tales but X-Men: Battle of the Atom appears to be an epic in the making with daring new twists on concept.

When Brian Michael Bendis launched All-New X-Men, Beast brought Professor Xavier’s original five students into the present in order to stop Scott’s mutant revolution. Now X-Men from the future arrive in the present on a mission to force the past X-Men to go back.

Here’s a look inside X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 by Bendis and Frank Cho. As you’ll see it’s not just X-Men from past, present and future but Sentinels from various eras are fighting the Children of the Atom: Continue reading Inside X-MEN BATTLE OF THE ATOM #1

Way back when there was only one X-Men book…seriously just one!

There was an X-Factor (the original 5 X-Men reunited) and the New Mutants (with a just introduced Cable, future founder of the first X-Force) but only one X-Book and Chris Claremont was at the top of his game with a thrilling, socially relevant epic.

At my local comic book shop’s 38th Anniversary I picked up the X-Tinction Agenda hardcover (at 38% off thanks to Zanadu) and relived the exciting epic I haven’t read since the original issues first hit shelves.

Genosha was an island nation that considered mutants a national resource and not citizens. Mutants were slave labor Continue reading Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

X-Men from past, present and future collide in the Marvel Now as part of the 50th Anniversary of the X-Men. Jason Aaron, Brian Wood and Brian Michael Bendis team up for the 10-part storyline. Logan and the students of the Jean Grey School are recovering from war with the Hellfire Club as the Battle of the Atom begins next month.

Marvel showed new covers and preview art from the Wolverine and the X-Men issues of the crossover and writer Jason Aaron talked about tackling massive fight scenes:

“It certainly is a challenge when you’re dealing with that many characters. Usually I just feel bad for the artist when I’m writing a page and it’s got so many characters on it all interacting and talking and fighting. Continue reading Jason Aaron Previews X-MEN: BATTLE OF THE ATOM

One of my favorite creators is taking on the ultimate X-Man. Phil Jimenez will draw and write a two-part story kicking off in Savage Wolverine #12 this November.

The fan-favorite artist has amazing runs with Grant Morrison on New X-Men and Warren Ellis on Astonishing X-Men. Jimenez tells Marvel.com a preview of his upcoming story and how it’s based on an issue from way back in the Chris Claremont era.

“Our story is called “Come Conquer the Beasts” and the gist is simple: Continue reading SAVAGE WOLVERINE by Phil Jimenez Preview
