BLACK PANTHER Movie Begins Production

Marvel Studios announced today that production is underway on Black Panther, revealed the official synopsis and confirmed new cast members.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, with Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett, with Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa, King of Wakanda, after his first Marvel film appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Freeman is back as Everett K. Ross. Andy Serkis played Ulysses Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This character was a smuggler/mercenary who escaped from Wakanda. In the comics Klaw is a mortal enemy of T’Challa. ANGELA BASSETT Joins BLACK PANTHER

A powerhouse actress joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Queen of Wakanda.

Marvel announced Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.

Bassett is a star of American Horror Story and veteran of sci-fi films Strange Days, Contact and played Dr. Amanda Waller in Green Lantern. Bassett was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It. Continue reading ANGELA BASSETT Joins BLACK PANTHER

RYAN COOGLER TO DIRECT MARVEL’S BLACK PANTHER

Marvel makes it official: Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther.

The acclaimed director of Fruitvale Station and Creed will bring the first mainstream comic black super hero to the big screen.

New BLACK PANTHER By TA-NEHESI COATES & BRIAN STELFREEZE

The first black superhero will star in a his own brand new ongoing series in 2016.

Marvel announced writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and artist Brian Stelfreeze as the creative team on the new Black Panther book via The New York Times.

Coates is the acclaimed author of Between the World and Me, correspondent for The Atlantic and nominee for the National Book Award. This will mark the comic book debut for Coates. Batman fans will remember Stelfreeze’s run of covers for Shadow of the Bat.

Marvel revealed “A Nation Under Our Feet” will be a “yearlong story line” by Coates and Stelfreeze. The arc is inspired by the 2003 book of the same title by Steven Hahn. WOLVERINE Is Killable

In The Wolverine we saw a weakened Logan (Hugh Jackman) struggle to survive Yakuza attacks with his healing factor damaged because of the Viper. In the comic books Wolverine is now Killable and the enemies are closing in while Logan is vulnerable.

 

Black Panther and Storm guest star in this week’s Wolverine #8 as Logan hunts for a cure in Wakanda. There will be a fight between Logan and T’Challa. If you want to know what’s fueling this feud check out Wolverine and the X-Men #24.
