Prepare for HARBINGER WARS

Emerald City Comicon attendees got a look at the big event set to shake the Valiant Universe next month. I grabbed a free copy of the Harbinger Wars sketchbook. Inside fans are treated to character designs for the Project Rising Spirit strike team by Khari Evans, a flashback of super villain Toyo Harada and interior black and white art from Harbinger Wars #1 by Clayton Henry.

The 12-issue crossover begins in April kicking off in Harbinger Wars #1, Harbinger #11 and Bloodshot #10. A struggle between reformed Harbinger hunter Bloodshoot and Harada for control of empowered children with hero Pete Stanchek caught in the middle. Harbinger was and is my favorite series of the Valiant generations.

This was Valiant’s first appearance at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle. Legendary artist Barry Kitson (current Bloodshot artist) was on site to meet fans along with books and new Shadowman logo t-shirt.

Harbinger Wars #1 by Joshua Dysart, Duane Swiercynzski, Clayton Henry and Clayton Crain hits April 3rd.

Bloodshot Is Back

Bloodshot is reborn. Half man-half machine. All bad ass. The deadliest hero of the Valiant Universe is back this week in a new series by crime writer Duane Swierczynski with artists Manual Garcia and Arturo Lozzi.

He was a broken soldier resurrected by nanotechnology but he’s not sure which memory is right. You can be sure Bloodshot’s war on terror will lead back to his masters – and we’ll love him for it!

Earlier this year it was Sony reportedly was planning a Bloodshot film. No updates on the film but the comic book comeback is sure to fire up interest in the project.

Valiant’s Harbinger #2 is also out this week.

Bloodshot Goes Big Screen

Sony eyes Valiant series Bloodshot for the big screen according to Deadline. The comic book series starred a ruthless mob assassin set up and framed for murder. The killer goes to witness protection but is betrayed and subjected to experiments that give him super strength and healing powers but no memory of his past.

The Valiant Universe is relaunching with new issues this May. The publisher made headlines with the announcement of the first talking comic book cover. I’m sure a new Bloodshoot series is in the works. It was a huge hit in the 90’s.

The World’s First Talking Comic Book Cover

The voice of War will command you to buy his comic book! Actually I’m not sure what he’ll say but Valiant Comics is talking up a comic book breakthrough – the world’s first QR code augmented talking comic book cover. Preview posters for the X-O Manowar #1 QR Voice Variant are coming to comic book shops this Wednesday.

“We want fans worldwide to know that something special is happening in their local comic shop during the build-up to May 2nd and the launch of the new Valiant Universe,” said Valiant Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani. “Valiant’s QR Voice Variant is not only a new innovation in comics and a true incentive for retailers, but an enhanced and immersive experience for fans as well. By merging elements of print and digital, we’ve hopefully created something that fans will just have to see in person!”

X-O Manowar #1 by Robert Venditti and Cary Nord will re-tell the tale of the Visigoth warrior in the alien armor when Valiant relaunches May 2nd.

“From the beginning, it has been Valiant’s mission to get readers into their local comic shop and talking about what makes this such an exciting medium,” said Valiant CEO Jason Kothari. “A trailblazing effort like the QR Voice poster and accompanying limited edition cover to X-O Manowar #1 not only accomplishes that, but also brings a first-of-its-kind interactive experience to print.”
