Robert Downey, Jr. in AVENGERS Sequels!

“He IS Iron Man!”

And now it’s official!

Marvel announced the signing of Robert Downey, Jr. to reprise the role of the “billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist” Tony Stark and Armored Avenger – Iron Man!

Under the two-picture agreement, Downey will star as Tony Stark/Iron Man in “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” and “Marvel’s The Avengers 3.”

Downey, Jr.’s last two Marvel films, 2012’s “Marvel’s The Avengers” and this year’s “Iron Man 3,” rank as two of the top five grossing films of all time, collectively earning over $2.7 billion worldwide to date.
“Marvel’s The Avengers 2” will be written and directed by Joss Whedon. Featuring favorites from the first Avengers film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen, “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” is slated to start production in March 2014 and open in theaters May 1, 2015.

IRON MAN: Howard Stark Secrets!

Iron Man 3 is still shining on top of the U.S. box office. Robert Downey Jr is in negotiations with Marvel/Disney but it looks like Tony Stark’s dear old dad will appear in the Marvel cinematic universe next year.

Will Dominic Cooper reprise his role as Howard Stark in Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Cooper played Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and the genius industrialist play a huge role in the creation of the super soldier. It’s possible Howard Stark will appear in flashbacks that will reveal the creation of the Winter Soldier, Cold War Russia’s answer to the Star-Spangled Avenger.

In the comic books Iron Man writer Kieron Gillen is exploring Howard Stark’s past in The Secret Origin of Tony Stark. Part Two comes out this week in Iron Man #10 in which Tony and Death’s Head make a startling discovery in space that triggers a search for answers in the past.

“Howard Stark has a secret. A dirty dirty secret,” Gillen said of the current arc.

IRON MAN, Ms. Marvel, Marvel Movie Updates

The success of Iron Man 3 is a reason to celebrate and speculate! Robert Downey Jr. is now reportedly negotiating with Marvel/Disney to reprise his role as Tony Stark in Avengers 2 and 3 but Iron Man 4 is not part of the discussions according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision.

Avengers 2 is the finale of Marvel Phase Two (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy.) Phase Three kicks off with Ant-Man and ends with Avengers 3.

Iron Man’s Role in Avengers & Infinity

Iron Man 3 is taking over the world and Tony Stark is playing a critical role in Marvel’s next big comic book epic! IRON MAN Is Marvel’s James Bond?

As Iron Man 3 dominates the global box-office fans wonder if Robert Downey Jr will return as Tony Stark in Avengers 2 or a possible Iron Man 4. The acclaimed actor recently talked about his future after the latest film in GQ.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige compares Stark to James Bond and speculates on Downey’s future as the Armored Avenger in a Huffington Post story:

“Well, look, I don’t think Robert will be playing this character for another 30 years, and I certainly hope the character stays in movies for the next 30 years — just like James Bond. IRON MAN Stark Family Secrets!

Robert Downey Jr. plays the Armored Avenger in a clash with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 opening this Friday on the big screen.

In the comic books this week writer Kieron Gillen begins exploring The Secret Origin of Tony Stark. The acclaimed writer recently sent Tony into deep space in the Godkiller arc and now brings Avenger down to Earth and starts uncovering the Stark family history.

“There’s a really big idea at the core of it. When I had that idea, I was walking around the airport. I was thinking about Tony in space. Marvel had just emailed me and said that the 50th anniversary [of Iron Man] is coming up and maybe we can have a story that harks back to the beginning of Tony. I was immediately thinking “how on Earth could I possibly do this?” I have Tony Stark in deep space at this point! I stopped and laughed. I shook my head and took a couple of steps. Marvel’s Next Big Thing at C2E2 unleashed lots of news from all corners of their universe!

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) faces Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and the Dark Elves on the big screen in Thor: The Dark World this November. Jason Aaron and Ron Garney brings Malekith back to the comics in Thor: God of Thunder #13 in a new arc: The Accursed.

Iron Man #9 (out this Wednesday) begins The Secret Origin of Tony Stark. Writer Kieron Gillen says “this is by far the biggest thing I’ve done in the Marvel Universe.” This big period piece story will introduce the Stark Seven.

IRON MAN Rewriting History

Robert Downey Jr. plays the Armored Avenger in Iron Man 3 next week while The Secret Origin of Tony Stark begins in the Iron Man comic book. In other Marvel films like Captain America: The First Avenger we saw Tony’s dad playing a role with the U.S. military.

Kieron Gillen and Dale Eaglesham explores the past of Howard and Maria Stark. Some fans may worry that the upcoming arc will change continuity. Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso took on those concerns on Comic Book Resources.

“Let’s be clear about one thing: This story doesn’t totally change Tony Stark’s origin. It reveals a heretofore-unrevealed pocket in his origin that, shall we say, deeply illuminates who he is and his relationship with his mother and his father. It also introduces a major new character who’ll be very important to Tony’s future — I can’t emphasize enough how important. You will look at Tony very differently at the end of the story.

The Secret Origin of Tony Stark begins next week in Iron Man #9.
