Gotham City Burns in New “The Dark Knight Rises” Poster

Tom Hardy as Bane watches as Gotham City is broken and in flames in a new poster for The Dark Knight Rises posted by Collider. The familiar tagline The Legend Ends accompanies the image. A good point made by the author that Michael Caine’s Alfred said of the Joker “some men just want to watch the world burn” in The Dark Knight. Maybe the legend ending is Gotham City – instead of Batman – and Bruce Wayne will rebuild.

Bruce Wayne’s urban renewal of Gotham City is part of Scott Snyder’s Batman run and made him a target of the Court of Owls. This image certainly adds to the theory that Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film may be based on the classic No Man’s Land epic.

“The Dark Knight Rises” Work for Bruce Wayne?

Viral marketing for The Dark Knight Rises is soaring across the internet. Would you like to work for Bruce Wayne? The Wayne Enterprises website is promoting a job fair but if you click you see an intriguing message.

When you click on the Wayne Foundation button is takes you to a new site with a photo of Thomas and Martha Wayne played by the actor in Batman Begins. This is where you can find a link to the Wayne family history and the tragedy of Bruce’s parents. I was hunting for a reference to Miranda Tate. This is the Wayne board member and Bruce’s potential love interest played by Marion Cotillard.

I saw this cool image of Bane RISES painted across a Gotham City sewer lid on Facebook. Look closely to see how the artist uses the Batman logo for Bane’s eyes.

This is from The Fire Rises – a real time stragety game for The Dark Knight Rises. The message invites you to join Bane’s army, capture territory and join his uprising in Gotham City. You can also enjoy the moody chant from the movie trailers.

Christopher Nolan On Directing James Bond

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Poster from thedarkknightrises.com. Courtesy: Warner Brothers Entertainment

What will The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan pick for his next project after the Batman finale? Nolan has expressed interest in directing a James Bond film. The director has said the big action sequence at the snowbound fortress in Inception was inspired by On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

In a new interview Empire Online with The Playlist Nolan says he’s serious but cautious about a potential 007 film.

“It would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things.”

I have to agree with the editors that say Nolan’s comment suggest he would only like to take on the job if he got to make a fresh start, including casting a new Bond. Craig is lined up for more films so a potential Nolan helmed 007 movie may be more than a decade away.

Daniel Craig recruited Oscar winner Sam Mendes to direct the upcoming Bond film Skyfall so it’s not a stretch to see an acclaimed filmmaker work on 007. And never underestimate producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson shaking things up. The change from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig was a shock and look how it’s working. After the Daniel Craig era closes an innovative director like Nolan might be just what the franchise needs.

Batman Incorporated #2 Variant Reveals Talia Al Ghul

Batman Incorporated #2 courtesy DC Comics

I’m still reeling from Batman Incorporated #1 by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham. The New 52 Second Wave relaunch stars Bruce and Damian Wayne and the global franchising of Batman. This series a family dynamic from hell. Leviathan is a sinister cabal ready to strike at the New Bat World Order. And the head of the evil organization is Damian’s murderous mama, Talia Al Ghul.

DC Comics revealed this stunning variant for #2 by Cameron Stewart featuring the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul.

Fans have speculated Marion Cotillard will be revealed as Talia in The Dark Knight Rises. If so, it’s the best kept secret so far. We know Liam Neeson is reprising his role as Ra’s Al Ghul – at least in flashback – in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film.

But Talia is definitely back in this comic book!

The Dark Knight Rises Spot Feels Like Gangs of Gotham

courtesy Warner Brothers

It looks like The Dark Knight Rises will have a “Gangs of Gotham City” vibe to it. The latest commercial for Christopher Nolan’s Batman finale is out – thanks to Spinoff Online. Nolan has been reported saving he was inspired by A Tale of Two Cities.

There are moments when it feels as if Batman wins the police to his side while Bane has his army (are they his terrorists or a recruits from Gotham’s underbelly?)

In the scene when the bridges blow it makes me think perhaps the new film will be partly inspired by No Man’s Land. In that Batman crossover a massive earthquake hits Gotham City – the government declares it a no man’s land and the gangs carve up their terrorities in the remains. Bane acted as an agent of Lex Luthor in the storyline.

Here’s the latest ad below:

Here’s a link to No Man’s Land Volume One if you’re interested in reading that classic crossover.

Catwoman Pulls a Fast One in New “The Dark Knight Rises” Spot

courtesy Warner Brothers

This jumped started my day – two new commercials for The Dark Knight Rises proving Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film will not be all doom and gloom. There are some great quick funny lines by Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Michael Caine as Alfred. But my favorite moment is Anne Hathaway as Catwoman stealing the show and something else from Bruce Wayne. Take a look at these new spots collected by Collider.

This is the third big treat for Batman fans this week: New posters, these spots and the relaunch of the Batman Inc comic book! The film opens July 20th.
