Ben Affleck is taking the reigns of the Dark Knight’s movie future after Justice League.
Affleck will star and direct a new stand-alone Batman film. Warner Brothers Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara told theater owners at CinemaCon according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the annual meeting of movie chain operators, the Chairman noted the box-office performance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which introduced Affleck as the new Dark Knight.
“It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020,” said Tsujihara, “I’m also exited to know that will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”
During San Diego Comic-Con last year, THR said Affleck was working with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on a Batman solo film and the Oscar winner has written a script according to a more recent report.
The bad guys steal the spotlight this September! DC Comics announced Villains Month in which the rogues get one-shots (with 3-D motion covers) and bump the good guys from their own books!
Batman: The Dark Knight will have multiple issues starring new and classic rogues with multiple issues in their criminal minds by an all-star roster of creators!

In The Dark Knight Trilogy Ra’s Al Ghul told Bruce Wayne to become a symbol to fight injustice. In this week’s Detective Comics #16 the Joker has become an inspirational symbol to Gotham City’s unhinged and mentally unstable. The Joker never appear in this excellent issue (or does he?) but his sinister influence chokes this issue like Joker gas creeping into you.
In this Death of the Family tie-in Batman fights to stop bands of Joker fans and wannabes. John Layman and Jason Fabok craft a chilling tale of madness and manipulation among ordinary people pushed over the edge and ruthless new criminals seizing their claims in Gotham City. Layman shows us the ramifications of the Joker’s comeback.
Batman races across Gotham trying to stop the violence and track down the mysterious League of Smiles. The real madman behind the outbreak may not be the Joker but a new holy terror. Another new villain is taking advantage of the Joker’s rampage. While Oswald Cobblepot has been recruited by the Joker the Emperor Penguin makes his move on the crime lords of Gotham City. The back story showing the new villain’s rise to power is chilling and fun.
John Layman, Jason Fabok and Andy Clarke deliver a fun read that ties loosely into Death of the Family while setting the stage for new enemies and showdowns in Gotham City’s Underworld.
How did Batman influence the latest James Bond adventure?
Skyfall is already scoring great reviews. Director Sam Mendes tells IndieWire he was “directly inspired” by Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
“In terms of what [Nolan] achieved, specifically ‘The Dark Knight,’ the second movie, what it achieved, which is something exceptional. It was a game changer for everybody,” he explained about how it influenced his approach.
“We’re now in an industry where movies are very small or very big and there’s almost nothing in the middle,” he continued. “And it would be a tragedy if all the serious movies were very small and all the popcorn movies were very big and have nothing to say. And what Nolan proved was that you can make a huge movie that is thrilling and entertaining and has a lot to say about the world we live in, even if, in the case with ‘The Dark Knight,’ it’s not even set in our world. If felt like a movie that was about our world post-9/11 and played on our fears and discussed our fears and why they existed and I thought that was incredibly brave and interesting. That did help give me the confidence to take this movie in directions that, without ‘The Dark Knight,’ might not have been possible. Because also, people go, ‘Wow, that’s pretty dark,’ but then you can point to ‘Dark Knight’ and go ‘Look at that – that’s a darker movie, and it took in a gazillion dollars!’ That’s very helpful. There’s also that thing – it’s clearly possible to make a dark movie that people want to see.”
Skyfall hits U.S. theaters November 9th.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance as John Blake an outstanding performance in The Dark Knight Rises. Christopher Nolan left us with an intriguing possibility for the future of Batman…perhaps a Dark Knight Legacy.
Police officer John Blake aka Robin was a hybrid of Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake. In the end John appears to be rising to become Gotham City’s new protector.
Would the actor take on a lead role in a giant franchise like Batman?
“I always choose scripts the same way,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “If it’s a great script and a great filmmaker, then I’m interested.”
The star faced the question on Tuesdays Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I don’t think [the ending of The Dark Knight Rises] is necessarily a set-up. I think it is the great ending for that trilogy,” he said. “Even if you go back to Batman Begins, he’s talking about how Batman is more than a man, it’s a symbol, and a hero can be anybody and we all have heroes inside of us.”
Frank Miller’s classic Batman tale comes to animated life in Batman: The Dark Knight. Peter Weller stars as an older Bruce Wayne forced into retirement along with other costumed heroes. A violent gang called the Mutants is terrorizing Gotham City. When Harvey Dent aka Two-Face resurfaces the Batman comes out of retirement and becomes a target for the police, old foes and new enemies. I’m trying to keep this post spoiler free so if seems vague I’m trying to not give away the ending of The Dark Knight Rises or The Court of Owls.
How do you top Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale? I humbly suggest Warner Brothers wait at least 7 or more years and give Mr. Nolan the Court of Owls epic by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo for inspiration.
As I read each chapter of this dark epic I often thought how Nolan would translate the conspiracies and mind games of Snyder’s storylines and Capullo’s Owl designs to the big screen.
While the other New 52 Bat books focused on classic rogues Snyder created a dark new enemy and history for Bruce Wayne and Gotham City. The Court of Owls is a secret society that had been manipulating Gotham City for decades. The Owls have a ruthless assassin known as the Talon. The secret society has their talons gripped into the Wayne family and Gotham City history.

The storyline included Night of the Owls crossover. The Court unleashed an army of Talons on Gotham all at once with specific targets. While Bruce was under siege in the Batcave he called on his Batman family to prevent the Court’s deadly agenda. Only Bruce could ultimately uncover and face the mastermind behind the Court. A revelation that rocked the Wayne family legacy and Bruce’s memory of his parents.
In The Dark Knight Trilogy Bruce learned you must become a symbol and anyone could be Batman. In this potential film Bruce returns to see the young heroes inspired by him and he must confront a symbol of evil and the Bat’s natural enemy – the Owl.
