Love and Death in Batman Incorporated #2

July 20th we’ll know if Talia Al Ghul is appearing in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film. Fans have speculated that Marion Cotillard will be revealed as the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises.

Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham create a dark love letter to Batman’s deadly dearest in Batman Incorporated #2. The duo share Talia’s harsh life growing up as the daughter and pawn of the criminal mastermind. The story takes us inside the minds of Batman’s most complicated enemies and sets the stage for what will be one hell of a payoff.

We relive some of the most powerful moments of Talia’s life and deadly love affair with Bruce. Morrison builds the issue to the present as Talia confronts her father and forwards her plot to punish Batman. We’ll see how her betrayal is tied to the shocking assassination of Robin in the premiere issue.

Chris Burnham was born to make Grant Morrison’s script come alive. From harrowing fights to Talia’s revealing closeups Burnham’s distinctive style is perfect for this twisted tale of love, revenge and death.

Batman Incorporated #2 Variant Reveals Talia Al Ghul

Batman Incorporated #2 courtesy DC Comics

I’m still reeling from Batman Incorporated #1 by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham. The New 52 Second Wave relaunch stars Bruce and Damian Wayne and the global franchising of Batman. This series a family dynamic from hell. Leviathan is a sinister cabal ready to strike at the New Bat World Order. And the head of the evil organization is Damian’s murderous mama, Talia Al Ghul.

DC Comics revealed this stunning variant for #2 by Cameron Stewart featuring the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul.

Fans have speculated Marion Cotillard will be revealed as Talia in The Dark Knight Rises. If so, it’s the best kept secret so far. We know Liam Neeson is reprising his role as Ra’s Al Ghul – at least in flashback – in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film.

But Talia is definitely back in this comic book!

Dark Knight Rises Rejection Reveals Spoiler?

Why would an actress turned down a role in The Dark Knight Rises? One young actress would prefer to keep her hair.

POTENTIAL SPOILER COMING!!! YOU MAY NOT WANT TO READ ANY FURTHER!!!

HERE IT COMES:

Dark Horizons (via The Surrey Comet) reports that 8-year-old actress Leila De Meza was offered the role of a young Talia Al Ghul but rejected the role because producers insisted she would have to shave all her hair off. Joey King is playing the role. We know that there are flashbacks of Talia’s father, Ra’s Al Ghul, who is played by Josh Pence.

This supports my theory and hope that an adult Talia is the real villain behind Bane’s rampage. I have posted that Marion Cotillard (playing Miranda Tate of Wayne Enterprises could really be Talia. )

Dark Knight Broken!

An ominous new poster for The Dark Knight Rises that may reveal a crucial plot point: Bane is walking away from a shattered Bat mask with the slogan: The Legend Ends.

The 6 minute IMAX prologue was screened to select critics earlier this week.  The prologue was an action packed opener featuring Tom Hardy as Bane much like the opening of The Dark Knight showcased the Joker.

Christopher Nolan told Empire this new film is set 8 year after The Dark Knight with Batman in a weaker state and “with Bane, we wanted to give Batman a challenge he hasn’t had before. With our choice of villain and our choice of story we’re testing Batman both physically as well as mentally.”

The one-two punch of the new poster and Twitter image make it seem like Nolan will follow the Knightfall storyline in which Bane breaks Batman’s spine and Bruce Wayne is forced to quit.    In comic book version there was Dick Grayson and Azrael (who temporarily took on the famous cape and cowl) were Bruce Wayne’s possible replacements. There’s no one in the cast list so could it be the Nolan will end the series with Batman broken?

One question still out there. Is Bane working for Ra’s Al Ghul? This film is said to come full circle with Batman Begins. Batman let his ex-mentor Ra’s Al Ghul/Henri Ducard played by Liam Neeson crash to his death in the first film. In the final film Liam Neeson is listed in the cast and actor Josh Pence is listed as playing a younger version but is this in flashback or in the present? In the comics Ra’s Al Ghul resurrects himself via Lazarus Pits hidden around the globe. And I still wonder about my contention that Marion Cotillard could be playing Talia Al Ghul and she is the secret mastermind and Bane her enforcer.

A Geek Thinking Too Much About The Dark Knight Rises

Is it just me? Warner Brothers seems very generous with Bane and Catwoman images. Anne Hathaway looks sexy and Tom Hardy looks scary as the infamous foes but are all those shots just a distraction from the real secret of the Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film?

We have seen nothing of Marion Cotillard who is playing Miranda Tate. This character is described as a Wayne Enterprises Board member helping Bruce Wayne with this father’s philanthropic legacy. Is she the biggest secret of The Dark Knight Rises? Is she Talia Al Ghul?

I know this rumor has been around from the beginning but it’s fun to put the clues together and theorize. Liam Neeson is listed in the cast as Ra’s Al Ghul. Josh Pence is listed as playing a younger version of Bruce Wayne’s mentor turned enemy. Fans have theorized that The Dark Knight Rises will bring everything full circle back to Batman Begins.

In the comics Ra’s Al Ghul or The Demon’s Head is criminal mastermind with a daughter named Talia. Bane was chosen by Ra’s to be his daughter’s husband and his heir until Batman defeated the muscled assassin. Talia is so bad ass in the comics she not only takes over the League of Assassins but runs Lex Luthor’s Lexcorp too.

Could Bane and Catwoman be pawns of a criminal mastermind out to avenge the death of her father? All the photos and buzz over Bane and Catwoman are attractive distractions but I can’t get the thought of Cotillard as Talia of my geek brain!
