Time to continue our Black History Month inspired celebration of the African-America comic book heroes who I feel make an impact. Once again, let me say that fictional characters are not as important as real civil rights leaders, artists, scientists and leaders in other fields but I do think it’s important to highlight these characters. By spotlighting these breakthrough comic book heroes it might inspire future writers and artists. Continue reading BLACK HISTORY MONTH COMICS COUNTDOWN Part 2

Friday Flashback X-Men Ladies Night

Kitty Pryde, Magik, the Stepford Cuckoos and Tempus just want to have fun, be human and not just mutants training or fighting the next big enemy. It doesn’t take much to convince Emma Frost to get approval for a Girls Night Out. The X-Women are soon caught up in Inhumanity as their London shopping excursion is interrupted by the birth of a new Inhuman.

Inspired by the wonderful Uncanny X-Men #15 this week by Brian Michael Bendis and guest artist Kris Anka I want to Friday Flashback to a classic and humorous issue with a similar X-Men “Girls Night Out” theme. Continue reading Friday Flashback X-Men Ladies Night

When a fan-favorite writer exits a popular book fans can get nervous. Jason Latour is taking over Wolverine and the X-Men from Jason Aaron who started the strange saga of Logan and the kids of the Jean Grey School.

The change comes after a major change in Wolverine – he’s lost his healing factor. Latour tells Comic Book Resources how Logan’s new status quo will impact the book:

“Up to now it’s all began and ended with Logan. It’s his strength this school is built on the back of. His reputation for being the unkillable badass has been their insurance policy. Continue reading WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN Grading the Teachers

One of my favorite creators is takes on the ultimate X-Man. Phil Jimenez draws and writes a two-part story kicking off in Savage Wolverine #12 out this Wednesday.

The fan-favorite artist has amazing runs with Grant Morrison on New X-Men and Warren Ellis on Astonishing X-Men.

Jimenez told Marvel.com how the story is based on an issue from way back in the Chris Claremont era.

“Our story is called “Come Conquer the Beasts” and the gist is simple: Continue reading SAVAGE WOLVERINE by Phil Jimenez

Battle of the Atom is underway! X-Men from the future, past and present collide in fight to save future of the mutant race as part of the 50th Anniversary. Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron and Brian Wood are the “Professor X’s” of the current X-books and co-writers working together on this crossover.

X-MEN #4 Celebrates the Past and Future

X-Men #4 by Terry Dodson courtesy Marvel
X-Men #4 by Terry Dodson courtesy Marvel

X-Men #4 is one of those “in-between” issues. It’s the aftermath of Primer, Brian Wood’s stunning first arc with Olivier Coipel and the prelude to Battle of the Atom which will tie into the other main X-books.  This stand-alone issue may be seen as a time moment to catch your breath but it’s a wonderful chapter of character development and drama demonstrating why we love the mutants.

Jubilee is a crossroads. The mutant turned vampire is adopting the mysterious orphan from the first arc as her own son. Wolverine joins Jubilation Lee on a journey into the past as she decides on her future. Brian Wood takes us back to the very place where we first met Jubilee (then a spunky mall rat) and she first met the Children of the Atom. Continue reading X-MEN #4 Celebrates the Past and Future
