Fan Expo Vancouver celebrated a second year by bringing in the biggest geek God of all – Stan Lee! The legendary creator inspired huge lines for autographs, photos opportunities! Stan the Man delivered a special surprise – posing with dozens of these Marvel inspired cosplayers! It’s amazing to think nearly all these characters were created or co-created by this incredible writer who still have spectacular energy and wicked sense of humor.

The cast of the hit sci-fi show Continuum greeted fans and teased the almost here season premiere (tonight, April 21st.) Rachel Nichols recalled her favorite fights (as Scarlet vs. the Baroness in G.I. The Rise of Cobra) and her many action packed roles (Alias and Star Trek.)

Phil Jimenez and Stephen Sadowski participated in the expo’s first sketch duel! The first challenge was to redesign a B-level character. Sadowski pumped up and scaled down (briefly an Avenger) Jack of Hearts while Jimenez styled up Dazzler. Beast, Mystique, Wonder Woman and Phoenix consplayers joined the two artists for a game of comic book Pictionary with hilarious results. Sunday’s big sketch duel is between David Finch, Bob Layton and Kaare Andrews!

Fans has the chance to cheer and ask questions of Stan Lee, The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker among other celebrities. Sunday Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek, Elvira, Michael Hogan of Battlestar Galactica are the big Q&A sessions so grab your guide and plan ahead to get a great seat.

Vancouver could be renamed Fancouver as lovers of comic books, anime, video games, science fiction and fantasy converged on the convention center. There’s an amazing sense of community as geeks gather to share and cheer for the fan-favorite creators and legendary stars.

The One Hero Stan Lee Would Save

Iron Man courtesy Marvel.com

The mighty Stan Lee is the co-creator of Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men and continues to be a major creative force in the industry. Huffington Post asked the legend – if all the heroes were wiped out and he could save only one who would it be? Who did he think has the highest value to humanity?

“I think I’d have to say Iron Man because Tony Stark has the wealth, inventive genius and impenetrable armor to accomplish almost anything,” Lee replied.

I thought sure Stan would say Spidey but if you’re going to have one hero I guess a genius inventor is the best guy for the rest of us and our planet.

With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story will be screened with a Q & A with Stan on May 2nd with Ipic Theaters.

Stan Lee Will Read to You…(I Mean Your Kids)

Stan Lee is not just a writer/editor/creative genius/my hero! (I may have mentioned or shown off my photo with him a few – million – times!)

Stan “The Man” Lee is also an actor, storyteller and showman! Stan is voicing two new apps for Disney. Amazing Spider-Man is available and The Incredible Hulk is available in April. The apps are for kids but I’m sure a few big kids may download and enjoy a story told by Stan.

BuzzFeed captured Stan in the Studio. Take a listen and imagine Stan as your grandpa.

Stan Lee is turning 89 this month and the legendary creator shows no signs of slowing down. Lee is turning aliens into the next generation of super heroes!

In Previews for March 2012 you can see art from Stan Lee’s Mighty Seven #1. This is from a partnership of A Squared Entertainment, Archie Comics, Stan Lee and POW! Entertainment. The concept is seven aliens arrive on Earth and are taught to be superheroes by Stan Lee himself.

Thanks to Robot 6 for the back story, where you can see more Alex Saviuk art for Might 7.

And a reminder about Stan Lee’s birthday wish. Here’s how the legend wants to you help celebrate by helping the Hero Initiative.

Happy Anniversary Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four #600 Marvel.com

Congratulations to Marvel’s First Family! Fantastic Four #600 is released today. The 50th Anniversary of The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine. Thanks to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for giving us Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny. I guess we should thank them for Doctor Doom too. A great super team deserves a great villain.

Comics, cartoons or movies – the Fantastic Four have entertained us for decades. If you haven’t picked up an issue in a while, here’s an update on our heroes.

SPOILER WARNING:

Johnny Storm apparently sacrificed himself to stop an invasion from the Negative Zone. Spider Man joined the team. Reed renamed the group the Future Foundation.

Spider Man is just the latest in the long line of guest members including Storm, Black Panther and She-Hulk. Reed, Sue, Ben, Johnny, their extended family and Johnny and Ben’s girlfriends have been through cosmic clashes and emotional dramas.

One of my all time favorite covers is Fantastic Four #236. This was the 20th Anniversary issue drawn by John Byrne. Not since the early days of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby has a creator captured the spirit of the Fantastic Four than John Byrne on his epic run.

Jonathan Hickman is now chronicling the FF with innovative concepts but always staying true to the core of what makes this book great. The Fantastic Four is always about big adventure and family.

Happy Anniversary!  Here’s to another 50 years (and maybe a new movie?)
