Time to continue our Black History Month inspired celebration of the African-America comic book heroes who I feel make an impact. Once again, let me say that fictional characters are not as important as real civil rights leaders, artists, scientists and leaders in other fields but I do think it’s important to highlight these characters. The Ultimate line evolves again. Three new books are born. Now Marvel’s April previews reveal more about the enemy facing the All-New Ultimates.

 

One of the most fun elements of the Ultimate universe is the modern takes on classic heroes and villains. The new team roster will be Spider-Man Miles Morales, Kitty Pryde, Cloak, Dagger, Bombshell and the new Black Widow. The young heroes take on a drug fueled crime wave in the ruins of New York. Peter Parker is about to have a comeback…from the dead!

 

13 months ago Marvel Comics celebrated the 700th issue of Amazing Spider-Man but killing off Peter Parker and replacing him with Otto Octavius as a Superior Spider-Man. Doc Ock switches bodies with Parker.

Captain America’s sidekick turned deadly enemy turned ally will have a huge 2014. Sebastian Stan reprises his role as Bucky in Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming April 4. The Star-Spangled Avenger’s sequel is based on my all-time favorite Cap stories by Ed Brubaker.

Bucky co-stars in the All-New Invaders by James Robinson. The World War II heroes reunite against the Kree in the upcoming book.
