The Marvel and Sony Pictures Spider-Man deal shakes up the superhero movie schedule. The new Spidey will likely make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War then star in a new solo film co-produced by Sony with Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios team. The Spider-Man film led to Marvel rescheduling four films.
Here’s a quick recap: Spidey will first appear in a Marvel Universe film. Sony will then release a new Spider-Man movie July 28, 2017 co-produced by Marvel Studios Kevin Feige and his team with Amy Pascal, who has overseen the Spider-Man franchise since 1999.
Sony and Marvel will collaborate on a “new direction” for Spidey.
Marvel and Sony are “exploring opportunities to integrate Marvel Comics Universe characters into future Spider-Man films.”
Sony is looking to “go back to Spidey’s roots and put the character back in high school” which would mean a new actor in the role according to Variety. The report claims Sony is moving ahead with a spinoff starring the Sinister Six and film that features a female hero from the Spider-Verse.
