The creators of American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest reunite for a new Vertigo series out this week. Scott Snyder (Batman) and Sean Murphy (Joe the Barbarian, Punk Rock Jesus) create The Wake for Vertigo Comics, an underwater sci-fi story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about The Wake!” Snyder tells the Source, “This is a story Sean and I have actually been developing together for more than a year, a big, twisted, sprawling science fiction and horror epic, all of which begins with a single, terrifying discovery at the bottom of the ocean. It’s one of the most ambitious stories I’ve ever done, and there’s no one I’d rather be creating it with than Sean Murphy. Sean’s a great friend and we had a blast together on American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest; luckily, he’s also one of the industry’s brightest new stars, someone with unrivaled abilities as a world-builder—every scene he draws is so fully realized, so richly imagined, it’s hugely inspiring working with him, and I’m grateful to him for signing on to be my partner at the end of the world, here.”

The story begins with a marine biologist recruited by Homeland Security to investigate a new threat leading to a mysterious oil rig and horrors under the Arctic Ocean.

Scott Snyder unleashed the Court of Owls then the Joker at Batman since The New 52 relaunch. Snyder is teaming up with Jim Lee to launch Superman Unchained. Given Snyder’s track record with Batman and Swamp Thing how darker will this Superman book be? He’s what Snyder told Comic Book Resources:

“I really like stories where characters are challenged by their worst fears. Superman is facing someone new and it’s going to shake him. It’s not horror, and there’s humor between the characters, but it’s definitely about dealing with something that frightens him. This is basically the Superman story I would tell if I could only do one. It’s got the full cast and Lex Luthor, but also new Continue reading New Threat in SUPERMAN UNCHAINED

BATMAN Writer On New ROBIN Rumor!

Harper Rowe is the kick-ass creation of Scott Snyder. The tough teen from The Narrows saved the Dark Knight during Snyder’s The Court of Owls epic. Rowe is back in this week’s Batman #18 in the aftermath of Damian’s death. Will Harper be the next Robin?

“(Laughs)No! I feel badly that everybody is assuming that just because she’s there right afterwards, we were trying to position her as the new Robin. But I can tell you honestly, everybody reading this…she’s not designed to be Robin. I’m not going to give away what happens…whether she would BE Robin or not. But, what the creation of Harper Row was really about was creating a lens for me personally that I could relate to in Gotham, that would be like, a kid, or somebody struggling, as a young person, you’re trying to make ends meet, you’re in this place that’s really tough, nobody believes in you and you have this incredible superhero in town that’s doing these things that inspire you,” Snyder tells MTV Geek.

“So, the genesis of that character has nothing to do with the mythology Continue reading BATMAN Writer On New ROBIN Rumor!

How did Bruce become the Bat? Scott Snyder follows The Court of Owls and Death of the Family with an eleven part blast into the past. Batman Year Zero will reveal the New 52 early beginnings of the Dark Knight. Snyder reveals why he wanted to tell this story:

“It’s definitely me wanting to tell this story. It really came about, I guess, about nine or 10 months ago, when I was thinking about trying to redefine, in my mind, for myself, who Bruce is in our run,” Snyder tells Comics Newsarama.

“I was thinking about who he is to Joker, and reconsidering what we were going to do after Joker. And I was just thinking about where he is emotionally, and who he is.

And I had an idea for a story Continue reading Scott Snyder Talks BATMAN YEAR ZERO

After the smashing success of The Court of Owls and Death of the Family the Batman creative team is going back in time!

The Dark Knight is going back to basics with a nearly year-long storyline called The Year Zero starting in June 2013 according to the AP. The upcoming Batman arc by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo will focus on the beginning of Bruce Wayne’s crime fighting career in The New 52.

“It’s not ‘let’s redo the origin,'” Snyder clarified. The story will focus on how Bruce Wayne figured out how to be Batman, and what challenges he faced when he first wore the cape and cowl.

“We tried to preserve as much of Batman’s history as we could,” said the writer. Snyder promised this Continue reading BATMAN Goes to YEAR ZERO
