Marvel Knights is back in a big way! First with Spider-Man and now the X-Men. The revived line pairs independent creators with Marvel’s biggest icons for exciting new kinds of stories.

Wolverine, Rogue and Kitty Pryde star in Marvel Knights: X-Men by Brahm Revel and Cris Peter. The first issue arrives Wednesday with mutants and murder in a small town.

“I can’t tell you too much because the story is somewhat of a mystery,” Revel tells Marvel.com. “Or rather each of these two young girls [is a mystery]. I knew coming in that I wanted to invent some new characters that were blank slates and didn’t have immense histories from living in the Marvel Universe for 50 years. Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

Way back when there was only one X-Men book…seriously just one!

There was an X-Factor (the original 5 X-Men reunited) and the New Mutants (with a just introduced Cable, future founder of the first X-Force) but only one X-Book and Chris Claremont was at the top of his game with a thrilling, socially relevant epic.

At my local comic book shop’s 38th Anniversary I picked up the X-Tinction Agenda hardcover (at 38% off thanks to Zanadu) and relived the exciting epic I haven’t read since the original issues first hit shelves.

Genosha was an island nation that considered mutants a national resource and not citizens. Mutants were slave labor Continue reading Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

X-MEN #4 Celebrates the Past and Future

X-Men #4 by Terry Dodson courtesy Marvel

X-Men #4 is one of those “in-between” issues. It’s the aftermath of Primer, Brian Wood’s stunning first arc with Olivier Coipel and the prelude to Battle of the Atom which will tie into the other main X-books.  This stand-alone issue may be seen as a time moment to catch your breath but it’s a wonderful chapter of character development and drama demonstrating why we love the mutants.

Jubilee is a crossroads. The mutant turned vampire is adopting the mysterious orphan from the first arc as her own son. Wolverine joins Jubilation Lee on a journey into the past as she decides on her future. Brian Wood takes us back to the very place where we first met Jubilee (then a spunky mall rat) and she first met the Children of the Atom. Continue reading X-MEN #4 Celebrates the Past and Future

Wolverine, Rogue and Kitty Pryde investigate the emergence of new mutants and murder in small town in Marvel Knights: X-Men by Brahm Revel. The writer tells Marvel.com why these mutant heroes made the cut for his 5-part limited series:

“Well Wolverine was a given,” Revel says. “If I’m gonna do an X-Men story, I’m putting Wolverine in it. And as I said above, this is a story about how the past can come back to haunt you, so Wolverine made sense because he is a character with a checkered past. He’s a killer and has rage issues, yet he still identifies himself as a good guy. At a certain point he has to reconcile these two opposing identities. Continue reading Meet the Marvel Knights X-Men

Quesada eventually became Editor-In-Chief and is now Chief Creative Officer.

Current Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso is reviving the line and has recruited top independent creators to take on classic characters new limited series.
