“Prometheus” Viral Video Starring the Company Man

The only thing more dangerous to humanity than the species in the Alien mythology is the evil company and its greedy corporate minions. A new viral video is online starring Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, head of the shadowy company appearing in the Alien films. It appears on the TED website which hosts special corporate conferences. In this video Weyland is addressing thousands in the year 2023 before the events in Prometheus.

I think Guy Pearce is pretty mesmerizing in this. Weyland is part inspiring, part menacing as he addresses the conference. Weyland references artificial lifeforms. Michael Fassbender will be playing one in the film.

As Weyland shares the Greek legend of Prometheus, it’s eerie to think of how they mirror the events of Alien and of what is said to happen in the new film.

Thanks to Digital Spy for spying this online. This follows up the previous post in which director Ridley Scott revealed Pearce’s role and the connection between the films. By Editor

HERE IT COMES

Ridley Scott gives the connection between the two films and reveals the role played by Guy Pearce. It was revealed that Charlize Theron would play a corporate officer. Now we may know her boss.

“When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship,” Scott said.

“The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well,” Scott continued.

Any update on this exciting project is cool news. This could be an early clue about how Ridley Scott will approach a new film set in the Blade Runner world.

Michael Fassbender joins Ridley Scott’s New Film – Updated

Michael Fassbender in Prometheus courtesy 20th Century Fox

Michael Fassbender has officially joined Ridley Scott’s next film The Counselor. The Cormac McCarthy penned thriller is being called “No Country for Old Men on steroids.”

Scott went for Fassbender as his lead after working with him on Prometheus. The actor will play an attorney who gets involved in a drug operation. Thanks to Deadline for breaking and now confirming the story.

This marks 3 scheduled projects with previous directors for the in demand star. Fassbender will work with his Shame director Steve McQueen on 12 Years A Slave and director Matthew Vaughn on a X-Men: First Class sequel that will reportedly focus on Magneto.

Update:

Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt have been mentioned as potential actors to play the film’s villain. Thanks to Deadline and Dark Horizons.

All of those actors would be perfect but there’s something about the physicality of Renner that is most exciting – or maybe it’s the geek in me picturing the guys who played Magento and Hawkeye in the same cool movie?

Michael Fassbender as Legendary Celtic Warrior

Michael Fassbender is lined up to reprise his role as Magneto in X-Men: First Class but the rising star is developing his own heroic project. Fassbender will star in a film based on the legendary Celtic warrior Chuchulain according to Variety.

Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies) is working on the script. No director is attached. Chuchulain is a warrior from Irish mythology. You may remember Fassbender at a Spartan in 300. Fassbender appears next in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

Idris Elba on Prometheus

Perhaps the coolest man on the planet is Idris Elba. The British star has appeared in Thor and now Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I’m still hoping Elba will play King T’Challa in a Black Panther movie.

Elba is part of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. While promoting Ghost Rider with Dread Central he talked about his experience on Prometheus.

“It’s incredibly visually stunning. Ridley Scott is a genius,” Elba said. “We’re really mindful of the audience knowing too much before they get there because it’ll spoil it, but it’s a very exciting film. Fans of Ridley and his legacy will be very proud of it.”

Elba plays Captain Janek in Prometheus and will hopefully reprise his role as Heimdall in Thor 2.

New Roles for Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender

Henry Cavill on the set of The Man of Steel

Two new possible roles for leading men of the comic book/sci-fi genres:

The new Superman is working on his next big role – it’s with one of my favorite directors. Henry Cavill (The Man of Steel) is in talks to join The Great Wall for Edward Zwick according to Variety. The film explores a mystery behind the building of China’s mighty icon. Cavill wrapping his final works of production on The Man of Steel.

Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Prometheus) may re-team with Director Ridley Scott for The Counselor based on a script by Cormac McCarthy. according to Deadline. The article reports that insiders are calling the script “like No Country for Old Men on steroids.”

Harrison Ford and Blade Runner Prequel?

The unthinkable is happening again. Ridley Scott revolutionized the science fiction genre with Alien and Blade Runner. The countdown is on for Prometheus, the sequel that evolved into something new with Alien DNA. The cast is entirely new. Scott committed to a new film set in the Blade Runner universe – will Harrison Ford be joining him?

Twitchfilm reports that “Harrison Ford has entered early talks to join the new Blade Runner. While it is in the early stages and it is quite possible that it won’t work out…”

Harrison Ford played Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner, a special police officer charged with “retiring” replicants – artificial beings. If Ford is involved can he still play Deckard given the ending/themes of the first film? I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so that’s all I will say.

Boom Studios publishes beautiful a graphic novel version of the Phillip K. Dick story”Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep” the basis for Blade Runner.

For the fascinated fan – here’s two recommendations from this obsessive fan!

Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner is a compelling behind the scenes story of how this influential Science Fiction classic was made.
