“There’s an army of brilliant actors in that film. Bryan Singer is back at the helm. Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they’ve ever had. I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they’re definitely going for it. Continue reading James McAvoy on X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Along with the stellar roster of celebrities folks can meet comic book legends who have made uncanny impacts on the heroes we see on the big screen. I’m most excited to meet Chris Claremont, writer of the X-Men series and creator of characters like Gambit, Emma Frost, Rogue, Sabretooth and Kitty Pryde. Claremont wrote my first comic book, Uncanny X-Men #116, and his work on the mutants is the comic book equivalent to the soundtrack of my life! The man gave us The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past, inspiration for the upcoming X-Men sequel!

Denny O’Neil is another living legend famous for his runs on the Green Lantern/Green Arrow and Batman series with fellow guest Neal Adams. O’Neil was the Marvel editor of Frank Miller’s classic Daredevil run and returned to DC as editor of the Batman family of books to oversee modern classics Continue reading Emerald City Comicon 2013 Preview

Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen Back for X-MEN Sequel!

The Cast of X-Men: First Class courtesy Marvel.com

The Tweet that sent the X-world buzzing!

Director Bryan Singer revealed Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will join the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

“Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come…”

Stewart and McKellen played Professor Xavier and Magneto in the first X-Men trilogy. Singer recently replaced X-Men: First Class helmer Matthew Vaughn as director of the sequel that will be based on the classic story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

In Days of Future Past the surviving X-Men of the future send Kitty Pryde (Rasputin) into the body of her past self to rally the X-Men of that era to prevent an assassination. The murder leads to an apocalyptic future in which Sentinels rule North America and have killed or imprisoned all mutants and superheroes.

This storyline leaves open the opportunity for Hugh Jackman (and other members of the original trilogy cast) to join the cast since a much older Wolverine leads the underground resistance movement in the dark future.

This is UNCANNY, ASTONISHING news! I would love to see Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender in scenes together as the once and future Master of Magnetism!

In earlier tweet Singer officially welcomed back James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult to the film.

Patrick Stewart “Makes It So” in Seattle!

Emerald City Comicon announced the first celebrity guest for 2013 and it’s huge! Sir Patrick Stewart of Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men will appear at the Seattle con March 1-3, 2013. He will be appearing Saturday and Sunday only.

Emerald City Comicon shattered records with over 53,000 attendees at the Washington State Convention Center.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola will be returning to ECCC in 2013.

Back to gushing about Sir Patrick Stewart…I love Captain Jean Luc Picard and no one else could have played Professor Xavier but I also remember him as Gurney Halleck in Dune. “Gurney Man” is one of my favorite characters in my all time favorite sci-fi book. Say what you will about David Lynch’s version but Stewart was perfection as the brave warrior for the Atreides.

Star Trek: The Next Generation fans engage to the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. Event organizers scored a major geek coup: the first ever reunion of the principal cast. This stellar event will mark the 25th Anniversary of the series.

Sir Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner, Will Wheaton, Denise Crosby will appear at Star Trek TNG EXPOsed, a special ticketed event on April 28 at the Stampede Corral.

“A lot of guys in the entertainment industry are looking at (the Calgary Comic Expo) now and thinking ‘How the hell did they pull that off?’ It’s like the little engine that could, right?” said founder Kandrix Foong.

Thanks to the Calgary Herald for the story.

Congratulations to the Calgary Comic Expo team for this huge gift for Star Trek fans! It is cool and weird that southern Alberta would be the location for this reunion. Although I admit I once visited beautiful Calgary in December when it was 20 below zero and it felt like I was breathing on an ice planet.

William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Will Wheaton, Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner have been at my hometown’s excellent event and Emerald City Comicon welcomes George Takei this year.
