The first celebrity for 2014’s Emerald City Comicon is a Star Trek icon! Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura of the classic series) will appear next year’s event all three days. The announcement closes a great milestone for Trek fans. Nichols is the fifth and final original cast member to attend ECCC over the last five years.
Nichelle Nichols is a trailblazer in television and life as one of the first black actresses in a prominent television role. Nichols would use her star power to work for NASA recruiting women and minorities into the space agency.
Nichelle Nichols will be part of the stellar celebrity roster at Fan Expo Vancouver! As Lieutenant Uhura on the original Star Trek series, Nichols became a trail-blazing television icon as the first black actress with lead role on television and was first inter-racial kiss on television.
I saw the stunning Nichols help NASA celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the World’s Fair and the Space Needle by performing the Star Trek theme song with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra in Seattle last year in a tribute of song, dance and astronauts.
Attention Pacific Northwest geeks! If you missed out on Emerald City Comicon or just can’t get enough then get ready to head north on April 20th and 21st for Fan Expo Vancouver! This is the second major comicon for the beautiful British Columbia city where many sci-fi films are shows are filmed. Since my Comicon for Virgins helped some first time Seattle fans enjoy Emerald City Comicon here’s an updated version that might inspire you to head north!
UPDATE: PNB is offering ComicsBlend fans a 10 percent discount to this event. Here’s the link. See you there?
