X-MEN of Every Era Face X-TINCTION

A classic X-Men battle is revisited in the latest Secret Wars Battleworld book. Remember when Genosha was a technological powerhouse built on the backs of mutant slave labor?

The X-Men brought them down but payback was in store as several villains banded together.

The X-Men clashed with the island nation one final time near the end of the classic runs by Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson. X-Men and New Mutants from every era were caught in the international intrigue as cyborg Cameron Hodge and Genosha unleashed their X-Tinction Agenda against the mutant heroes.

Arrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim used the original crossover as inspiration for a new take starting this week in X-Tinction Agenda #1. Continue reading X-MEN of Every Era Face X-TINCTION

The New Mutants could be the next evolution of the X-Men film franchise. Fox recruited Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars) to direct a spinoff film based on the spinoff comic.

Teen angst, isolation, romantic crushes and finding new friends from diverse worlds – mixed with emerging mutant powers, danger room sessions and crazy villains – it’s all in a day at Xavier’s School. The New Mutants are perfect back to school basics to evolve the franchise.

Who will join the cast and who will they fight?

“I Want My X-TV!”

Fox wants to mutate their X-Men movie franchise into a new television series. If Marvel and Fox reach an agreement which mutants could make the leap to television?

Here are our top candidates for X-TV:

X-Factor

Imagine “mutant noir.”

The long-running series by Peter David would be a fresh quirky take on another side of the Fox’s X-Men universe like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is for the Marvel Avengers Universe.

X-Factor is filled with charismatic mutants who didn’t attend Xavier’s and was filled with romantic complications, inter-agency love triangles, conspiracies and unique villains. Continue reading X-MEN Television Series For Your Consideration

Chris Claremont’s vision of the X-Men is the core of Fox’s film franchise. The legendary writer guided the Children of the Atom for nearly two decades in comics. The Dark Phoenix Saga, God Loves Man Kills, Days of Future Past, The Wolverine are iconic stories that inspired the film franchise. Claremont is now working on a treatment for Gambit for Fox.

After X-Men: Apocalypse how does Claremont think the film franchise could evolve?

“With New Mutants, you can appeal to kids and explore the tensions and pressures of young mutants trying to get a handle on their powers and their lives,” Claremont told The Hollywood Report Heat Vision. Continue reading CHRIS CLAREMONT On Future X-MEN Movies

Captain Marvel welcomes a long-lost favorite character from the X-Men universe this week.

Carol Danvers rocks out with Lila Cheney, intergalactic rock and roll diva and the mutant who once tried to steal the Earth!

The fan-favorite Avenger has been on patrol in outer space in her latest volume by Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez.

Space is big but Carol’s X-Men connection is close so her solo series is a fun way to introduce the Carol Corps to this unique anti-hero. Continue reading CAPTAIN MARVEL Rocks With X-MEN Guest Star

Gay in the All-New Marvel Now: Pride 2014 Update

As part of Pride Month 2014 (in which we celebrate gay visibility in part) where are the GLBT characters in the All-New Marvel Now

Young Avengers won a GLAAD Media Award earlier this year. The Astonishing X-Men issue featuring Northstar’s wedding was a big seller. Those are the most high-profile gay heroes of the Marvel heroes.

Northstar (Jean-Paul Baubier) married Kyle Jinadu 2 years ago. After Astonishing X-Men came to an end, Northstar returned to the Jean Grey School in Amazing X-Men to join the Quest for Nightcrawler.  We haven’t really seen Kyle so we must assume he’s running Jean-Paul’s businesses while Northstar helps Wolverine, Storm and Beast battle demons, monsters and anti-mutant hate groups. The new creative team and storyline took Logan back to Canada (Northstar’s home, too) so we might expect to see Jean-Paul stay in the action as the X-Men team up with Alpha Flight.

NEW MUTANTS In X-MEN APOCALYPSE? For Your Consideration

X-Men: Days of Future Past introduced two new mutants from the New Mutants era to the cinematic Children of the Atom. With the news that X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in 1983 I couldn’t help but think of popular mutants born in the 80’s.

In Days of Future Past, Sunspot (Adan Canto) got to use his solar energy powers against the Sentinels. Producers chose to amp the Brazilian mutant’s power beyond just super strength. Roberto Da Costa could fly and blast heat at the relentless robots. Sunspot was one of the founding members of the New Mutants.

Warpath (Boo Boo Stewart) used his tracking ability, super strength and fighting skills with big — knives against the Sentinels. Warpath actually started out as a Hellion (a student of Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club.) James Proudstar blamed Professor X for his older brother’s death and joined the Hellions in his quest for revenge by taking his brother’s X-Men code-name Thunderbird. James would later reform and join Cable’s original X-Force then become an official X-Man.

Could more third and fourth generation X-Men join the next sequel in the fight against Apocalypse? Continue reading NEW MUTANTS In X-MEN APOCALYPSE? For Your Consideration
