MS. MARVEL Wins AWARD for DIVERSITY in COMICS

Marvel Comics’ Ms. Marvel, by writer G. Willow Wilson of Seattle and artist Adrian Alphona, won the second annual Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics, presented at Long Beach Comic Expo in Long Beach, California.

The breakout character has become a fan-favorite and rookie member of the Avengers.

Wilson praised Ms. Marvel fans in an impassioned acceptance speech graciously thanking readers who make the book a success.

“This award is very special to me, not just because of its connection to Dwayne, but because of what it represents…it is something being kept alive by one thing only and that is the readers and the fans whose passion, whose cosplay, whose wonderful repartee on Tumblr and Twitter make this book such a joy to work on.”

EISNER AWARD NOMINATIONS 2015

Seattle based writer G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and Seattle publisher Fantagraphics Books are among this year’s nominees for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, the Oscars of comics.

Ms. Marvel from Marvel, Multiversity from DC Comics, Saga from Image Comics, Bandette from Monkeybrain are the books leading with three or more nominations each. Marvel, DC and Fantagraphics tied for the most nominations overall with 18 each.

Wilson introduced Kamala Khan, the first Muslim superhero to be the lead of her own mainstream comic book title to critical acclaim and huge sales. The teen is one of the new Inhumans of the Marvel Universe who took the former code-name of her hero Carol Danvers when the Avenger was promoted to Captain Marvel. Marvel revealed the roster of the All-New, All-Different Avengers who will debut on Free Comic Book Day.

After revealing Thor, Ms. Marvel, Nova and Vision,  Wired was first to reveal Iron Man, Captain America and Spider-Man.

This will be the new version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the aftermath of Secret Wars. The roster is packed with what you might call legacy characters carrying on the name of famous heroes: Thor is the new Goddess of Thunder, Ms. Marvel is Inhuman Kamala Khan, former Falcon Sam Wilson will continue his role as Captain America and Miles Morales will apparently survive The End of the Ultimate Universe and swing over to the new Marvel Universe as Spidey.
