Avengers #11 was a thrilling, fun side trip on Jonathan Hickman’s cosmic odyssey! You don’t have to have read the earlier issues and enjoy this espionage filled chapter that puts Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman, Sunspot and Cannonball on the front burner of a undercover mission that would impress James Bond.

A.I.M. scientists are taking the alien viruses from the previous arcs and turning them into bioweapons for highest bidder. Natasha, Carol, Jessica, Roberto and Sam assemble in Macao to execute a Mission Impossible operation against A.I.M. agents. Hickman is known for his big epic scope but here he shows he’s equally powerful at writing comedy mixed with the thrills.

The real star of this issue is Continue reading Avengers #11 Review

New Avengers Showdown!

Mike Deodato will join Jonathan Hickman on the Avengers and New Avengers. After showing off the acclaimed artist’s upcoming work spotlighting Shang-Chi and his teammates in Hong Kong, Marvel shows a showdown that’s been brewing since Avengers vs. X-Men!

When Namor was possessed by the Phoenix Force he led an invasion of Wakanda that devastated the Black Panther’s homeland and people. When Hickman launched New Avengers #1 it was T’Challa gathering a new Illuminati to battle a cosmic threat to Earth.

Check out the cover of New Avengers #7! Namor may have been under the influence of the Phoenix during the Wakanda invasion but the Sub-Mariner has always been and will be an arrogant, quick tempered royal. It looks like the tension between T’Challa and Namor will explode in this issue!

Can Captain America, Iron Man, Doctor Strange keep the peace?

New Avengers #7 arrives in June.

New Avengers #25 The Dragon and the Firebird

New Avengers #25 is nothing like I expected and I loved it. It’s one of the most beautifully drawn stories that really made me feel awe inspired. Mike Deodato, Will Conrad and Rain Beredo’s art is lyrical at perfect moments and the Phoenix images are majestic.

This is not your typical superhero story in fact there are no super heroes in it. Brian Michael Bendis unveils a folk legend come to life. Centuries in the past the ruler of Kun Lun dreams of the Phoenix and a red-haired girl rising to fight the destroyer with a dragon avatar. As the force moves to Earth, the hidden Phoenix connection to Kun Lun will draw Avenger Iron Fist into the cosmic conflict.

I’m intrigued to see where Bendis will take this AvX side story and I’m eager to see the Danny Rand and Hope Summers relationship evolve. I could marvel at the art for hours like I was in a gallery. Deodato, Conrad and Beredo created a masterpiece.
