NEW MUTANTS In X-MEN APOCALYPSE? For Your Consideration

X-Men: Days of Future Past introduced two new mutants from the New Mutants era to the cinematic Children of the Atom. With the news that X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in 1983 I couldn’t help but think of popular mutants born in the 80’s.

 

In Days of Future Past, Sunspot (Adan Canto) got to use his solar energy powers against the Sentinels. Producers chose to amp the Brazilian mutant’s power beyond just super strength. Roberto Da Costa could fly and blast heat at the relentless robots. Sunspot was one of the founding members of the New Mutants.

 

Warpath (Boo Boo Stewart) used his tracking ability, super strength and fighting skills with big — knives against the Sentinels. Warpath actually started out as a Hellion (a student of Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club.) James Proudstar blamed Professor X for his older brother’s death and joined the Hellions in his quest for revenge by taking his brother’s X-Men code-name Thunderbird. James would later reform and join Cable’s original X-Force then become an official X-Man.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is here and generating rave reviews. In honor of the film based on the classic Chris Claremont story and uniting members of the original and First Class casts here’s a salute to some truly astonishing X-fans.

 

This cosplaying duo took inspiration from X-Men: First Class for their appearance at Emerald City Comicon this year.

It’s Back to the Future in this week’s exciting new chapter of Battle of the Atom!

Here’s the score:

Beast brought the original five X-Men to present to convince Cyclops to end his mutant revolution. Horrified by their future – the kids refused to go back.

X-Men from the future arrived at the Jean Grey School declaring the kids must go back to prevent a terrible future for mutants.

Young Jean and Scott took off. The modern X-Men agreed with the future team (which includes an adult Jean and Professor X’s son.)

A suspicious Magik (along with young Beast and Iceman) has transported to that future to find a very different group of X-Men.

You could call Chapter Six a slight detour as we meet more future mutants and discover a terrifying moment in future history.

Battle of the Atom is underway! X-Men from the future, past and present collide in fight to save future of the mutant race as part of the 50th Anniversary. UNCANNY X-MEN Demon Therapy!

I admit – I’m not a big fan of the supernatural themed X-Men stories. I’ve never been a fan of Magik. Illyana’s history is confusing and she’s just not likable. There’s nothing redeeming about the demon sorceress/mutant teleporter with an evil persona – see what I mean – confusing, huh?

 

Brian Michael Bendis and Frazier Irving have changed my mind about supernatural stories and Magik in just one perfect issue. Uncanny X-Men #7 is a beautifully written and drawn story of sacrifice, identity and cry for help. Every hero has demons but Illyana’s are literal.
