Talia Al Ghul may now be the most cruel villain in comic book history. Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham deliver the most bloody and twisted chapter yet in the war between Bruce Wayne and the devil’s daughter in Batman, Incorporated #12.

Bruce is relentless in his quest to stop Leviathan and get revenge for the death of his son. The words are few, the action is swift, the visuals are powerful and visceral. Grant Morrison chooses his words like weapons. There’s no “pow” or “bam” in this Batman. Burnham makes you feel every bone-crunching, skin-mauling act of violence. Batman and the Heretic’s epic battle feels like an operatic war of Angels of Heaven and Hell. This issue delivers the battle you’ve been craving since Damian Wayne was killed. You feel Bruce’s anger and wrath unleashed on Robin’s killer. As Bruce’s allies join the climatic battle, Talia’s most horrific family secret is revealed.

Robin became a casualty in the war between Bruce and Talia Al Ghul. It was part of Grant Morrison’s endgame that began with Damian’s introduction in Batman and Son. Morrison talked with Comic Book Resources about his final Batman Incorporated issues:

“Well, the next three issues are basically “Vengeance of Batman.” He’s been pushed too far. He underestimated Talia, and then Talia horribly underestimated him. That’s really what it’s all about. And part of this is that we didn’t want to do Jason Todd again. We didn’t want to leave Batman an emotional cripple. The Batman we’ve presented in this run has been through some pretty bizarre experiences including weird Continue reading Batman’s Revenge Begins!

Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham give members of Bruce’s army great screen time and moments. This issue features the debut of Wingman and Redbird – this twist is a great example of how the creative team deliver crazy comic fun mixed with drama, violence and sharp humor.

Morrison and Burnham have been building to a huge showdown between Bruce’s Batman Inc versus Talia’s Leviathan for the soul of their son.Just as the war is coming to a head Bruce makes a decision in the final panel that may seal Damian’s fate. It’s another entertaining chapter that ends with a “WTF?!” moment.
