Marvel makes it official:

Finn Jones will star as Danny Rand in Marvel’s Iron Fist, the fourth collaboration between Marvel and Netflix which will lead to a team-up series with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist called The Defenders.

In comics Rand travels with his family to the mystical city of K’un L’un where he is adopted by the city’s ruler and trained in martial arts and gains the power of the Iron Fist. Rand goes back to America to reclaim his family’s empire and start a career as a costumed hero. Iron Fist became best friends and partners with Luke Cage in Heroes for Hire.

According to the official series description: Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means,” Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck told Marvel.com. “Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.” Continue reading FINN JONES Officially IRON FIST

New Avengers #25 The Dragon and the Firebird

New Avenges #25 courtesy Marvel

New Avengers #25 is nothing like I expected and I loved it. It’s one of the most beautifully drawn stories that really made me feel awe inspired. Mike Deodato, Will Conrad and Rain Beredo’s art is lyrical at perfect moments and the Phoenix images are majestic.

This is not your typical superhero story in fact there are no super heroes in it. Brian Michael Bendis unveils a folk legend come to life. Centuries in the past the ruler of Kun Lun dreams of the Phoenix and a red-haired girl rising to fight the destroyer with a dragon avatar. As the force moves to Earth, the hidden Phoenix connection to Kun Lun will draw Avenger Iron Fist into the cosmic conflict.

I’m intrigued to see where Bendis will take this AvX side story and I’m eager to see the Danny Rand and Hope Summers relationship evolve. I could marvel at the art for hours like I was in a gallery. Deodato, Conrad and Beredo created a masterpiece.

When you think Iron First you think of dragons but the martial arts master may have a connection to the fiery Phoenix too!

Marvel gave Comics Newsarama this exclusive first look preview of New Avengers # 26. Iron Fist appears to be shielding Hope Summers (from Avengers who want to seize her?)

This is a new piece of the Iron Fist/Phoenix puzzle. Here’s the link to see New Avengers #25 featuring Danny Rand bursting with a Phoenix energy signature.

The preview includes this: “The secret history of the Phoenix is revealed in K’un Lun’s book of the dead Iron Fists. One of the most important chapters in the AVX story.”
