Justice League Bows Before Darkseid!

Justice League #6 is the final chapter of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee’s first arc. We’ve seen DC’s greatest heroes unite to fight the ultimate evil, Darkseid. Jim Lee talked with The Source about his inspiration for the cover.

“I wanted to create a cover which resonated with what I consider to be the most classic Darkseid story – namely the Great Darkness Saga – so that entailed the Justice League bowing down naturally to the power of Darkseid,” said Lee. “Except of course Batman who, despite not having powers, fights with all his strength in defiance.”

Geek’s Opinion: I love the positioning of Batman. I can almost hear him saying ‘I will not yield!”

Justice League #6 is out next week.

Darkseid Blasts the Justice League

Justice League #5 demonstrated the power of great scripting and art.

Geoff Johns unites all the heroes who will become the Justice League just in time for Darkseid to blow them apart. Jim Lee draws two attacks by Darkseid that make you feel the heroes pain. You know a bad guy is bad ass when nothing needs to be said.

Johns gives Batman, Green Lantern and Flash the spotlight in this issue. Barry’s uses his speed for more than just outrunning the enemy. A brash Hal Jordan gets brutally humbled then checked by Bruce Wayne. Batman motivates Green Lantern to mobilize while he goes to hell…almost literally.

You don’t want to miss DC’s ultimate evil makes his New 52 debut.

Justice League Versus Darkseid! It’s on!

DC Entertainment revealed a new giving campaign to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.  This commitment will feature the iconic Justice League characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg) sounding the call to action, “We Can Be Heroes.”

We Can Be Heroes will support three humanitarian aid organizations working in Africa—Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps—to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.

Here is the website, www.WeCanBeHeroes.org where you can make donations which DC Entertainment will match 100 percent (up to $1 million in donations), purchase specially branded merchandise, with 50 percent of the purchase price going to fight the hunger crisis via We Can Be Heroes,  sign up for newsletters and updates, and join the We Can Be Heroes online community.  The site will also feature information on each opartner organization and updates on conditions in the Horn of Africa.

“The members of the Justice League are an international team of super heroes beloved by a broad range of fans, including men and women, young and old.  This makes them the perfect ‘spokescharacters’ for this campaign,” said DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson.  “Their dedication to social justice and commitment to band together to defend the helpless brilliantly supports the ideals of the We Can Be Heroes campaign.  The hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa is something we can reverse if we all work together.  I’m proud and grateful we’re able to harness the power and standing of the DC Comics brand and iconic characters as well as for the support from both Warner Bros. and Time Warner that has allowed us to pursue this unprecedented initiative.”

Carlos D’Anda will be the artist on Justice League #8 as Green Arrow tries to join the super team. The fan favorite artist from Batman: Arkham City will illustrate the issue according the DC’s The Source.

The Emerald Archer wants to get on the new team but some JL members don’t get his point…so to speak…especially Aquaman.

Justice League #9 is titled “The Villain’s Journey” and marks Jim Lee’s return to the book.

Justice League New Arc, New Artist

I think would buy a comic with art by Jim Lee even if he’s drawing a whiteout snowstorm. Jim Lee’s return to a monthly comic is one of the biggest reasons I’m buying the new Justice League title.

Jim Lee’s art drew me in…Geoff Johns dynamic storytelling will keep on board when Lee moves to covers only. This happened before when Lee was recruited to Batman with Jeph Loeb for the year-long Hush storyline. I became hooked on Loeb’s writing and followed him to the Superman/Batman title and my comic book budget was blown. History is repeating itself.

Justice League #7 will mean a new arc and a new interior artist. Gene Ha takes over while Lee continues providing covers. Johns and Ha talked exclusively with Comic Book Resources about building the new team and the new enemies.

“I’ll say this: the big point of the story was introducing the new character dynamics between the main members of the Justice League, so I got to have a lot of fun with how they react to each other and things like that. But the other part of this story is setting up the new villain universe. There’s a lot of really subtle stuff going on there. I’ll just say that I’m not doing the next issue of the book, but oh man — I really wish I was. Something fantastic is being set up for that,” Ha said.

My first time seeing Gene Ha’s work was on The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. This was a story in which Scott and Jean were transported into Cable’s future to raise the young mutant who would lead the future rebellion against Apocalypse.

If you’d never experienced Jim Lee’s work on Hush here’s a link.

Aquaman With Bite

Justice League #4 courtesy DC Comics

Some comic book issues are worth it just for one panel! Justice League #4 is one of those issues. The future members of the Justice League are finally together in one issue. DC’s greatest source of evil makes his New 52 debut. Those reasons alone make #4 worthy.

When Green Lantern asks Aquaman, “…so, really, what can YOU do that WE can’t?”

And then Aquaman serves up a savage seafood buffet…and I geeked completely out. You see not only am I obsessed with super heroes but with sharks – so thank you Geoff Johns and Jim Lee for returning the Justice League to glory and showing why Aquaman is a badass with this issue’s Great White shocker.
