How does Wolverine and the X-Men go on without the title character?
Logan lost his healing factor and he’s headed for a final battle next month in Death of Wolverine.
Series writer Jason Latour hints at how the book will continue after the demise of the headmaster, mentor, teacher and school co-founder.
“Every moment since the decision was made to kill Wolverine came down, we’ve kind of been dealing these events in one way or another. There’s an elephant in the room we really had to stop and address. Fortunately, I think that’s led to a good new direction for the book in a lot of ways. This second arc is a much slower, quieter kind of story, and in it you’ll see the seeds planted for where this book is going to be headed post-“Wolverine.”Continue reading JASON LATOUR On WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN After Logan’s Death
You could almost start calling Wolverine and the X-Men…Storm and the X-Men.
Jason Latour relaunched the team book focused on a new semester at the Jean Grey School. With Logan leaving due to events in his own solo book (Killable, 3 Months of Die) Storm is the new headmistress.
When a fan-favorite writer exits a popular book fans can get nervous. Jason Latour is taking over Wolverine and the X-Men from Jason Aaron who started the strange saga of Logan and the kids of the Jean Grey School.
The change comes after a major change in Wolverine – he’s lost his healing factor. Latour tells Comic Book Resources how Logan’s new status quo will impact the book:
“Up to now it’s all began and ended with Logan. It’s his strength this school is built on the back of. His reputation for being the unkillable badass has been their insurance policy. Continue reading WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN Grading the Teachers
One of the most surprising comic book comebacks continues with a new volume of Wolverine and the X-Men in 2014. Writer Jason Latour and artist Mahmud Asrar are the creative team on the second volume launching in Marchas revealed by IGN.
Winter Soldier has been cancelled. The title was missing from Marvel’s July previews. Writer Jason Latour confirmed the book ends with issue 19.
“Well, I won’t lie, after spending the last 9 months or so living in Bucky Barnes’s skin, I’m a little heart broken,” he wrote on his blog. “He’s grown to be a very special character to me, maybe my favorite Marvel character ever, and I felt I could’ve written his story for years. The opportunity to do so came at a very trying time in my life and really helped me through some tough stuff, so in it’s way it’s very personal work. I hope that shows. That said though, really, enough cryin’ in my beer. I’m VERY grateful to everyone involved with the book all along the line for making it such a worthwhile experience.”
LaTour thanked artist Nic Klein and editor Lauren Sankaovitch.
This week Jason Latour and Nic Klein take over the adventures of Bucky Barnes in Winter Soldier#15.
Ed Brubaker brought Bucky Barnes back as the brainwashed assassin and set him on a path of redemption during his acclaimed Captain America run that continued with the Winter Soldier series.
Comic Book Resources talked with the writer turned artist (his creator owned title Loose Ends and Untold Tales of the Punisher MAX) about accepting the mission to continue’s Bucky’s story.
“I was surprised to get the chance, simply because I didn’t think this character would ever be in play. Brubaker’s work on this character has been great. He’s really built such a strong and compelling foundation– that when the possibility was introduced my mind went off like a nuclear test site.
As for how it came about — I’d drawn a few stories for my editor, Lauren Sankovitch, in the past and I’d made it clear I was interested in writing for hire, too. Fortunately she seemed to like my creator-owned work and when the time came to cast the book she asked me if I would be interested.”
