Iron Man’s Two New Suits of Armor?

The comic book version of Iron Man is unveiling a new suit of armor. Is the big screen version of the Armored Avenger suiting up in new tech to take on Loki’s army?

Marvel Comics Avengers Versus X-Men event will feature new armor designed for a specific foe according to Invincible Iron Man and AVX writer Matt Fraction. This AVX teaser image showing Iron Man versus Magneto is likely to be the foe. Iron Man will have to innovate to face the Master of Magnetism. Perhaps Tony is using some mystical tech he picked up from Asgard in the Fear Itself epic.

Cosmic Book News is sharing an image of an Iron Man in “Stark Tek Assault Armor” and reporting that this the design for a toy tie-in.  Comic book fans may think this is based on the Hulk Buster Tony created to tackle the Green Goliath. There’s also a Captain America version.  I agree with CBN that if this armor is in the movie it could be used to fight Skrulls, Frost Giants or any other army Loki is using in his war that assembles Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Howard Stark was introduced a flying car in Captain America: The First Avenger. His son Tony will be cruising in what Collider reports as an Acura 2012 Stark Industries Super Car in Marvel’s The Avengers.

Even a Thunder God may get jealous of Iron Man’s wheels. This sweet ride comes with night vision bulletproof tires and anti-ballistic shielding body panels.

The Stark Industries creation has a $9 million + price tag but gets 234 mpg. For more exclusive photos and complete features visit this Collider link. Marvel’s The Avengers premieres May 5th.

Marvel’s The Avengers assemble Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury with SHIELD on the big screen this May.

Collider reports that Marvel is moving ahead with solo films including Captain America 2 and may begin production this year plus a possible film featuring SHIELD.

The release schedule is here:

  • The Avengers on May 4th, 2012
  • Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2012
  • Thor 2 on November 15th, 2013
  • Untitled Marvel 1 on April 4th 2014

Collider puts the pieces from multiple sources pointing that one of those Untitled slots if for a second Cap movie.

Here’s hoping producers choose The Winter Soldier storyline as a modern-day sequel for Cap.

Which Marvel character deserves the second slot? Nick Fury and SHIELD, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye or will a long rumored Ant-Man movie finally happen?

Matt Fraction at Emerald City Comicon

The Mighty Thor #1 courtesy Marvel.com

I’m excited to report that Matt Fraction is returning to Emerald City Comicon. I loved Fraction’s Uncanny X-Men era which included the X-Men/Dark Avengers: Utopia. Matt is known for his long run on Invincible Iron Man, The Mighty Thor and 2011’s big event Fear Itself.

Matt recently relaunched The Defenders and is co-plotting The Fearless, both spinning out of event from Fear Itself. Matt is part of the team creating Avengers Versus X-Men debuting this April.

Fraction’s creator owned book Casanova continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and your mind!

I’m very lucky to have several autographed issues and graphic novels by him. Time to start choosing what I hope to have signed this year!

Emerald City Comicon is March 30th-April 1st in Seattle.

Avengers Assemble! Whedon’s Big Challenge

courtesy Empire Online

The Avengers are featured on 4 covers of the latest issue of Empire Magazine, which includes an interview writer/director Joss Whedon.

The fan favorite creator demonstrated how to take an existing story, make it accessible for new viewers and showcase a variety of favorite characters when he turned Firefly into Serenity. Whedon talks about the challenge of penning a story servicing each characters’ existing storylines and future solo ventures:

courtesy Empire Online

“It was an up-all-month job. Finding the characters’ voices was not only easy, but glorious fun – it doesn’t suck to write Tony Stark – yet finding the structure was just brutal. I haven’t had that much trouble making a screenplay work since Serenity, and embarrassingly, for the exact same reason: there’s just too many characters.”

Whedon is now in the critical post-production stage to meet his May deadline. Here’s his mental state:

courtesy Empire Online

“It’s like a sea. I can’t see either shore. I’m pretty sure I will drown. Don’t even call me Ishamael. The experience doesn’t feel any different from when I was running three TV shows and my son was born. Really the same. Not so huge. As far as the press goes, they don’t put it on me,” reflects Whedon. He pauses. “And I don’t feel it. It ain’t my money. I don’t care!”

Welcome to the New and Improved Asgard by Tony Stark

Asgardia by from The Mighty Thor #11 courtesy Marvel.com

Tony Stark vowed to rebuild the city of the Norse Gods in the aftermath of Norman Osborn’s Siege of Asgard. Fear Itself (another Marvel event) put Stark Resilient’s reconstruction plan on hold.

Iron Man will reveal Asgardia in The Mighty Thor #11 on sale February 22nd. Matt Fraction gave fans a preview today on Marvel.com. Asgardia may be built by Stark but it’s female power that runs it.

“[It came] straight from the fevered brain of madman Matt Fraction and the fantastic stylings of artist extraordinaire Pasqual Ferry,” says MIGHTY THOR editor Lauren Sankovitch. “When Matt dreamed up his scheme to bring Tony Stark’s Resilient in to rebuild Asgard, he had a vision of fantasy meets high-tech, where repulsors and rock trolls could coexist and thrive. An Asgard for the future if you will. And with Pasqual’s penchant for cutting edge environments and dreamscapes complemented by the stunning palette of [colorist] Frank D’Armata, he couldn’t have had a better set of partners to bring this new cityscape to life.”

Writer Matt Fraction said Asgardia will be ruled by the All-Mother and it’s not just a home for the Gods.

“Since we’ve fixed the World Tree on Earth, we’ve created a capitol city where denizens of all nine realms may reside,” Fraction explains. “Everyone’s in it together now, and the cast and flavor of the book is all the more diverse and varied for it.

“With the people of the Nine Realms only just familiarizing themselves with the new rule of the All-Mother, Asgardia is tangible proof that their new leaders can put their mythological money where their mouths are,” says Sankovitch. “Having a rebuilt Asgard is a powerful symbol to the world that the All-Mother are a force to be reckoned with and one that looks out for its own.”

One of my favorite moments of Fear Itself was Tony – Earth’s ultimate creative genius – in the Odin’s workshop. Now that Tony has built a city for Gods – makes you wonder what he might do next in the Marvel Universe? A high-tech surprise for AVX?

Avengers Versus X-Men #2 Cover Revealed

Avengers Versus X-Men #2 courtesy Marvel.com

Hope is at the center of the battle on the cover Avengers Versus X-Men #2. Marvel revealed the amazing cover by superstar Jim Cheung today.

Iron Man and Magneto are in the foreground. It appears Wolverine (with claws ready to slash) is leaping for Hope (who appears to be in a fiery light, is she hosting the Phoenix?)

This cover fuels the fan fire to many points raised so far:

  – Matt Fraction said Tony Stark was making a new armor with a specific foe in mind. Last week’s AvX teaser images included an Iron Man versus Magneto fight by Adi Granov.

  – Which will Wolverine choose? On AVX #1 Logan appears to be on the Avengers team going into battle against the X-Men. In this image Logan is clearly going in for the kill – aiming for Hope.

  – The Phoenix Force is heading to Earth in search of a human host. Emma Frost has seen the Phoenix image surround Hope before and some call Hope the mutant messiah so she seems to be the likely candidate for the entity.

Marvel included this description along with the image:

“With the opening salvo fired, the time for talking is over and in Avengers Vs. X-Men #2, allegiances are decided upon as quickly as they are broken. What side does Wolverine choose and what decision will Hope make that may turn the tide of the war… just as it begins?”

Comics Newsarama made more interesting points based on the cover.

Captain America is Center of The Avengers Movie

Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America in The Avengers courtesy Marvel.com

The Avengers Assemble under Joss Whedon. The stars were all signed up. The fans are excited. The director talks about the real challenge in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly and how he solved it.

“I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what my movie has to be about.”

Whedon says Steve Rogers’ awakening in modern times from Captain America: The First Avenger sets the stage for this movie and serves as the audience’s path into the story.

“So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers’ perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird-ass world,” Whedon says. “Everyone else has been living in it.”

Although Tony Stark’s ego may not approve I think this is a great choice.  I’m looking forward to seeing Cap’s ‘innocence’ and ‘wholesomeness’ interact and inspire Stark, Clint and Thor. Imagine Cap’s reaction when she first sees Black Widow!

See the heroes recruited by SHIELD to save the world from Loki from Thor (and his unrevealed secret army) on May 4th.
