ResurrXion is the big X-Men even in 2017 following Inhumans vs. X-Men.

But is the seed of ResurrXion and savior of a doomed mutant race found in this week’s Uncanny X-Men Annual #1?

Over the years, Annuals seem like bonus issues that may be good reads but not critical to an ongoing or future storyline.

You may want to run back to your comic book shop if you skipped this issue thinking “it’s just an annual.”

It’s the second biggest comics wave of the year. We can’t just pick a top five this week!

The Marvel Now initiative launches this week with big number ones issues including Champions, Cage! and Death of X so we’re dividing and conquering like we did with DC Rebirth to give you more peeks and picks of this week’s new comic books arriving.

New Comics Picks for September 14, 2016

The return of Doom Patrol and the Third Doctor and two big cliffhangers are among this week’s new comics picks of the week:

Doom Patrol #1

We were at Emerald City Comicon when Gerard Way emerged to announce his plans for DC Young Animal line and the return of Doom Patrol. The first issue is here. Way and artist Nick Derington reimagine the cult classic starring the strangest heroes in comics. Graveyard shift E-M-T’s encounter Cliff Steele (aka Robotman) with more of the cast (Crazy Jane, Niles Caulder, Flex Mentallo) on the weird journey ahead.

All-Star Batman #2

My Own Worst Enemy continues as the Dark Knight and Two-Face on the run with an army of assassins after them. Bruce tries to cure Harvey Dent but what happens when Two-Face turns a trusted Batman ally against him?
