In a summer of sequels and reboots, Guillermo del Toro is bringing a new movie mythology of monsters and mayhem to the box-office with Pacific Rim.

When giant monsters rise out the ocean to terrorize the world , scientists create their own monsters. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) is one of the pilots of giant robots designed to fight the alien beasts. Interviews with del Toro, Hunnam and Idris Elba (Prometheus, Luther) and behind the scenes action are packed in this new Under Attack YouTube feature courtesy Warner Brothers.

Black Panther in the Marvel NOW!

Black Panther will survive and apparently thrive after Avengers vs X-Men!

“Black Panther is hugely important to Marvel NOW!” said Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso,” and you’ll find out where in days to come!”

That’s was Alonso told a fan on this week’s Axel-in-Charge column on Comic Book Resources.

T’Challa recently returned to Wakanda in the pages of Fantastic Four and FF to reclaim his throne. The King gave refuge his fellow Avengers refuge in Wakanda and his nation and marriage is in shambles.

This declaration from Alonso is great news for Black Panther fans and fuels the excitement for a potential solo movie or having him join an Avengers movie.

All Hail The Black Panther in Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four #607 courtesy Marvel.com

Black Panther is back in the book that introduced him to the world. In this week’s Fantastic Four #607 by Jonathan Hickman Marvel’s First Family travels to Wakanda when the world runs out of vibranium. Mike Choi created this regal cover showing the former King in his glory.

This week’s comic book return of T’Challa follows the reports that Black Panther is next in line to get the big screen treatment from Marvel Studios. I’ve always pushed for Idris Elba (Heimdall in Thor.) After seeing Elba as the Captain in Prometheus I’m even more convinced. If you’re not then check out Elba in BBC’s Luther. I can see the dynamic between Elba and Robert Downey Jr now in an Avengers sequel. If there’s one bad ass who could silence Tony Stark it’s T’Challa.

Black Panther Solo Movie?

Black Panther returns in Fantastic Four #606 courtesy Marvel.com

The next Marvel hero to get a solo movie…Black Panther? Latino Review is reporting based on what they call several sources that T’Challa will get his own movie. The cinematic Captain America’s shield is made from vibranium, a metal found only in Wakanda, home of the Black Panther.

T’Challa was introduced in Fantastic Four, became a member of the Avengers, has his own solo series and married Storm of the X-Men. T’Challa was King of Wakanda a fictional nation in Africa that’s the only source of a metal called vibranium. T’Challa was dethroned and became the star of Daredevil’s title and briefly held his role as protector of Hell’s Kitchen in New York City.

The Black Panther recently appeared in Fantastic Four #606. Writer Jonathan Hickman discussed the status of the fan favorite hero. Black Panther and Storm’s romance has turned rocky since they are on opposing sides of Avengers vs X-Men so I expect T’Challa to be a single King again and ready for a solo comic book series.

My dream cast is Idris Elba as Black Panther, Mads Mikkelsen as Klaw and Paula Patton as Monica Lynne. The storyline could follow T’Challa as the Prince sent by his father as an Ambassador to the United Nations and have urban adventures in New York City then have him brought home when Ulysses Klaw and ROXXON invade Wakanda to exploit the vibranium.

Prometheus Full Length Trailer!

Prometheus still of Noomi Rapace courtesy 20th Century Fox

“Prometheus, are you seeing this?”

The full length trailer to director Ridley Scott’s return to the Alien universe is here. This is beautiful with jaw dropping and awe inducing imager. The DNA of Alien is truly in this film yet it feels new and different. The final minute is extremely intense. Take a look.

Noomi Rapace looks to make a great heroine. Michael Fassbender as the android is particularly chilling at the end. I’ve always wondered about the “Space Jockey.” When I was a kid and saw the original Alien the image of him scared me even though I knew he was dead.

What was your favorite part of this trailer?

Idris Elba and Warren Ellis Adventure

Idris Elba courtesy IMDB

Idris Elba (Thor, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Losers) is racking up roles in comic book inspired films. Now the British King of Cool will star in a project by comics legend Warren Ellis.

Elba will star in Ascension, a British miniseries written by Ellis, according to Deadline. The story involves the history and future of astronomy and could feature two roles for Elba. The star will soon be seen in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. If my geek dream comes true – he will play King T’Challa in a Marvel Black Panther movie!

Black Panther Returns in Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four #606 courtesy Marvel.com

The Black Panther’s solo title ended but the King of Wakanda returns to Africa in Fantastic Four #606 according to Marvel’s solicitations for May 2012.

Jonathan Hickman sends the FF back to the African kingdom with the ominous questions: “What happens when the world completely runs out of vibranium?”

The precious metal is what made Wakanda one of the most technologically advanced nations on the planet and a target for enemies out to exploit its natural resource.

Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive had T’Challa in New York City taking up the role of protector of Hell’s Kitchen for Daredevil.

FF # 18 features the Future Foundation kids on their first field trip in Africa and we meet the science club of Wakanda.

I’m thrilled to see the Black Panther staying in the Marvel Universe and back in Wakanda. Now let’s get working on that script for the movie starring Idris Elba!

Idris Elba on Prometheus

Perhaps the coolest man on the planet is Idris Elba. The British star has appeared in Thor and now Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I’m still hoping Elba will play King T’Challa in a Black Panther movie.

Elba is part of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. While promoting Ghost Rider with Dread Central he talked about his experience on Prometheus.

“It’s incredibly visually stunning. Ridley Scott is a genius,” Elba said. “We’re really mindful of the audience knowing too much before they get there because it’ll spoil it, but it’s a very exciting film. Fans of Ridley and his legacy will be very proud of it.”

Elba plays Captain Janek in Prometheus and will hopefully reprise his role as Heimdall in Thor 2.
