Happy Halloween!

photo by Kevin and Jaymie Lint

I wish all of you a happy and safe Halloween! It’s a tradition that I take a picture with the Sydnie and Lincoln Lint every year at Halloween but this year I’m across the country visiting my ailing mom.

Supermom Jaymie shared this year’s Halloween costumes with me! Linc is sporting Dracula cool while Sydnie is channeling her inner Batgirl! Jaymie tells me Sydnie declared:

“I’m Batman Girl and nobody kills my city!”

I think Babs and Gail Simone would be impressed! Sydnie, I have a Batgirl collection waiting for you when you’re old enough and and the parents approve!

Happy Halloween All!

Halloween Flashback! Spider-Man Buried Alive!

Marvel.com. Art by Mike Zeck

In between scary movie marathons why not dive into a classic comic book tale of terror this Halloween? An obsessed killer and a monster in the sewer are horror movie favorites. These are the driving forces that make “Kraven’s Last Hunt” also known as “Fearful Symmetry” one of my favorite comic book chillers.

J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck crafted this twisted tale of Kraven the Hunter, Vermin and a deadly double posing as Spider Man. My college roommate gave me this creepy collection one dark night in the dorms when I was in need of a study break distraction. A psychotic Kraven the Hunter’s final scheme to bag his most elusive big game, Spider Man, delivers on suspense and playing on your great fears. And just like a horror movie with that one last shock, this hunt delivers!

Visit this Marvel.com link to learn more about specific issues of the crossover and the sequel “The Grim Hunt.”

The graphic you see is just of a series of amazing Mike Zeck covers in this storyline.

Halloween Flashback! Kitty’s Nightmare Before Christmas

Uncanny X-Men 143 courtesy Marvel.com.

Uncanny X-Men #143 is a classic confrontation that’s perfect for Halloween. This issue titled “Demon” is one of my favorite comic book chillers. It’s a true nightmare before Christmas as a rookie X-man is alone in the mansion being stalked by a N’Garai, a nasty hybrid of Alien and Michael Myers.

Kitty Pryde had just joined Xavier’s School and this issue was a lesson in fear and determination. The youngest X-Man is terrified by the relentless demon then learns the hard way that her mutant phasing power will not save her from the otherworldly predator. Just like horror movie heroines Kitty uses the adrenaline and thinks on her feet to find way to kill the monster. I’m not giving anything anyway obviously because we know Kitty is alive and well – until the next villain goes after her.

You should give this one issue thrill ride a go to see how Kitty survives. If you can’t find this single issue, this story is collected in Essential X-Men Volume 2 by Chris Claremont, which includes another creepy one issue story with Cyclops facing the demon, D’Spayre, and features a guest appearance by Man-Thing.

This creepy cover image above features the art of John Byrne and Terry Austin. Check out Marvel.com for more of the X-Men’s clashes with these demons.

Here’s one of my favorite shots by Josh Lewis of the Corgi Costume Walk around Seattle’s Green Lake! This Corgi is sporting Steampunk style goggles – maybe he’s ready to join Snoopy in the air searching for the Red Baron?

Avengers for Halloween?

Lil Iron Man at Jet City Comic Show, photo by ComicsBlend.com

I was always a tall kid so I loved my Star Wars Darth Vader costume and wore it over and over as a kid for Halloween. How times have changed? At this weekend’s Jet City Comic Show I saw little Iron Men and Captains America!

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are now the inspiration for Halloween’s most heroic costumes. With the blockbuster success of The Avengers – expect a ton of Marvel heroes trick or treating in your neighborhood this season!

Here are some links to make your little hero stand out this Halloween: Will you choose Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk or Thor? Spidey is an Avenger in the comics at this year’s Amazing Spider-Man reboot proved Spider-Man will always be a favorite!

Be careful out there! Have a safe and happy Halloween!
