Confession:

This lifelong comic book fan has never cosplayed for a comicon or Halloween.
Last Halloween I did an impromptu Cyclops with a genetically altered with X-Men gear track jacket and a pair of visors that would impress Scott Summers.

This year I may actually go out as a superhero for Halloween and this would be a test run for Emerald City Comicon 2015. Continue reading HAVOK HALLOWEEN

“It’s Alive! It’s Allllliiiiiivvvvvvveee!”

In our Halloween celebration of scary comic book epics this entry is a creation of the mad scientists behind Wolverine and the X-Men.

The Frankenstein’s Murder Circus arc by Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw packed future classic with horror, humor, action, dramatic character development and one —- of a surprise ending!

A witch’s magic mind control turns the X-Men into circus freaks in a traveling show run by Frankenstein. As Logan’s students try to save their teachers. The mutants were facing zombie clowns! Yes, zombie clowns! Trust me, Aaron and Bradshaw make it work. Continue reading Halloween Comic Book Horror: X-Men vs. Frankenstein?

Laurie Strode from Halloween.

Kitty Pryde of the X-Men.

For Halloween we’re looking back at some of the best horror stories you can find in comic books!

Yes, the fan-favorite X-woman has seen her share of evil mutants and scary villains but I’m flashing us back to Kitty’s early years when she first attended Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Uncanny X-Men #143 by the legendary team of Chris Claremont and John Byrne is a classic confrontation that’s perfect for Halloween.

Halloween Comic Book Horror: The Wake

The most frightening horror stories play upon primal fears or fairy tales from hell. As we approach Halloween I’m sharing some scary comic book tales you should try and here’s why you should dive into The Wake by writer Scott Snyder (Batman) and artist Sean Murphy. This is one of my favorite new series of 2013.

The creators of this Vertigo book spared the tights and turned up the creep factor! No superheroes here. This is the kind of graphic storytelling you share with non-comic book fans to demonstrate why you love the medium. It’s a tense tale worthy of The X-Files or Torchwood.

After a brief glimpse at a post-Apocalyptic future the story turns to Gig Harbor, Washington where Continue reading Halloween Comic Book Horror: The Wake

HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN Scary Spider-Man Story

Marvel.com. Art by Mike Zeck

As we count down to Halloween I want to share some “so good they’re scary” comic book stories you should give a try…if you dare!

One of my all-time favorite Spider-Man stories is Kraven’s Last Hunt. This classic final showdown between Peter Parker and Sergei Kravinoff was also known as Fearful Symmetry.

An obsessed killer and a monster in the sewer are classic horror movie elements and drive this comic book tale of terror. Of all of Spidey’s horrific costumed villains it’s the pure insanity of Kraven’s eyes and sense of purpose that give me chills. Continue reading HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN Scary Spider-Man Story
