UNCANNY X-MEN Demon Therapy!

I admit – I’m not a big fan of the supernatural themed X-Men stories. I’ve never been a fan of Magik. Illyana’s history is confusing and she’s just not likable. There’s nothing redeeming about the demon sorceress/mutant teleporter with an evil persona – see what I mean – confusing, huh?

Brian Michael Bendis and Frazier Irving have changed my mind about supernatural stories and Magik in just one perfect issue. Uncanny X-Men #7 is a beautifully written and drawn story of sacrifice, identity and cry for help. Every hero has demons but Illyana’s are literal. Because of Magik the troubled kids at the new Xavier School learn how being a mutant can be hell – literally. Continue reading UNCANNY X-MEN Demon Therapy!

The “Magik-al” Mystery Tour begins this week in Uncanny X-Men #5 by Brian Michael Bendis and new artist Frazier Irving.

The mutant once called “little snowflake” has become a she-devil that’s made life hell for her other mutants and especially older brother, Colossus.

During Avengers vs. X-Men – Illyana, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Colossus and Namor were possessed by the Phoenix Force. All of the hosts and Magneto have paid a heavy price and their mutant powers have been twisted and weakened. Only Illyana survived unscathed. Magik is even more powerful. Why?

Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo launch a brand new Uncanny X-Men #1 next month. Frazier Irving will be artist on the title in April (issue 5)according to Comics Newsarama.

This teaser by Irving shows Cyclops, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Magik leading the mutant revolution. Bendis established that Scott’s team will be based on the old Weapon X facility and continue their recruitment of new mutants in the first arc of All-New X-Men.

My favorite previous Irving art was on Batman and Robin with Grant Morrison and Silent War starring the Inhumans for Marvel.
