Don’t Fear The Fearless!

Fear Itself The Fearless #2 courtesy Marvel

Fear Itself: The Fearless is one of my favorite maxi-series starring one of my favorite Marvel heroines. In the aftermath of Fear Itself – mystical hammers of Asgard are lost on Earth. Valkyrie defies the Avengers on a mission for Odin to recover them. It’s more than just honor at stake as we learn the emotional reasons why Valkyrie will risk all to recover the ancient weapons.

Sin and her empire of demonic allies are after the weapons too. If you loved, loathed or didn’t read Fear Itself – I think you’ll still enjoy this thrilling tour of the Marvel universe packed with exciting battles, bloody fights, and shocking betrayals. We learn of Valkyrie’s haunted past and hope for love in the afterlife. She invades Atlantis, Utopia and every corner of the Marvel world with the Avengers on her trail.

Valkyrie is definitely the star of this series but it’s packed with awesome moments: Wolverine vs. Crossbones, Doctor Strange and the Avengers vs. an army right of out Inferno plus Valkyrie vs. Storm is worth the whole dang series!

Valkyrie’s race against Sin was gripping and fun. Cullen Bunn, Matt Fraction and Chris Yost created this exciting quest for one of my favorite heroines. Mark Bagley and Paul Pelletier tag team on art with Art Adams on covers. Never fear you will enjoy The Fearless. Get it at your local comic shop of here’s the Amazon link.

The Fearless Climax

Fear Itself The Fearless #2 courtesy Marvel

Fear Itself: The Fearless comes to an exciting, emotional climax. Valkyrie defied the Avengers on a mission for Odin. The warrior’s race against Sin to find the mystical hammers left by the Serpent in Fear Itself has been gripping and fun. Valkyrie faces an emotional sacrifice in her final showdown with Sin issue 12 out now.

Even if you loved, loathed or didn’t read Fear Itself – I highly recommend this thrilling tour of the Marvel universe packed with exciting battles, bloody fights, and shocking betrayals.

Crossbones, Doctor Strange and the Avengers vs. an army right of out Inferno plus the Valkyrie Storm fight is worth the dang series!

Storm Vs Valkyrie (This Ain’t AvX)

Fear Itself The Fearless #9 courtesy Marvel

Valkyrie Vs Storm! Fear Itself: The Fearless #9 featured a blistering battle between the X-Men’s Weather Goddess and the Warrior Woman of Asgard. This is one of the smartest written sequence with Ororo I’ve read in a long time. The power, passion and devotion of these women’s causes is felt in every panel.

We learn Valkyrie’s hidden reason for her mission to collect the Hammers. Doctor Strange and Captain America confront her with the truth when Sin’s forces strike. If Valkyrie is the haunted angel then Sin is the devil. I can’t wait to see these opposite forces finally clash.

I really love this book. As a longtime fan of Valkyrie – it’s great to see her in the spotlight and taking on the Marvel universe.

Valkyrie Versus Avengers, Storm, the Marvel Universe!

Fear Itself The Fearless #12 by Art Adams courtesy Marvel and Comic Book Resources Exclusive First

I’ve been raving about Fear Itself: The Fearless. The action packed series stars Valkyrie in a race with Sin to recover mystical hammers. The Norse warrior woman defied the Avengers in search to recover the Asgardian artifacts. The legendary Art Adams provides stunning covers for the limited series.

I was thrilled to see two preview images in this week’s Axel in Charge column on Comic Book Resources. Valkyrie is ready to strike on the cover to the final issue and another image shows Storm and Danielle Moonstar (back in her Valkyrie form) confronting Val with a hammer ready to strike.

When a fan asked about Art Adams upcoming work with Marvel, Editor in Chief Axel Alonso responded:

“Fingers crossed we can find time for him to draw a story in “AvX: Versus.” I mean, how cool would that be?

Seriously cool! Adams starts creating covers for Secret Avengers, also featuring Valkyrie, next month.

Here’s one of my favorite Art Adams X-Men stories from the late 80’s featuring Mojo, Longshot and the X-babies.

Matt Fraction at Emerald City Comicon

The Mighty Thor #1 courtesy Marvel.com

I’m excited to report that Matt Fraction is returning to Emerald City Comicon. I loved Fraction’s Uncanny X-Men era which included the X-Men/Dark Avengers: Utopia. Matt is known for his long run on Invincible Iron Man, The Mighty Thor and 2011’s big event Fear Itself.

Matt recently relaunched The Defenders and is co-plotting The Fearless, both spinning out of event from Fear Itself. Matt is part of the team creating Avengers Versus X-Men debuting this April.

Fraction’s creator owned book Casanova continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and your mind!

I’m very lucky to have several autographed issues and graphic novels by him. Time to start choosing what I hope to have signed this year!

Emerald City Comicon is March 30th-April 1st in Seattle.

Welcome to the New and Improved Asgard by Tony Stark

Asgardia by from The Mighty Thor #11 courtesy Marvel.com

Tony Stark vowed to rebuild the city of the Norse Gods in the aftermath of Norman Osborn’s Siege of Asgard. Fear Itself (another Marvel event) put Stark Resilient’s reconstruction plan on hold.

Iron Man will reveal Asgardia in The Mighty Thor #11 on sale February 22nd. Matt Fraction gave fans a preview today on Marvel.com. Asgardia may be built by Stark but it’s female power that runs it.

“[It came] straight from the fevered brain of madman Matt Fraction and the fantastic stylings of artist extraordinaire Pasqual Ferry,” says MIGHTY THOR editor Lauren Sankovitch. “When Matt dreamed up his scheme to bring Tony Stark’s Resilient in to rebuild Asgard, he had a vision of fantasy meets high-tech, where repulsors and rock trolls could coexist and thrive. An Asgard for the future if you will. And with Pasqual’s penchant for cutting edge environments and dreamscapes complemented by the stunning palette of [colorist] Frank D’Armata, he couldn’t have had a better set of partners to bring this new cityscape to life.”

Writer Matt Fraction said Asgardia will be ruled by the All-Mother and it’s not just a home for the Gods.

“Since we’ve fixed the World Tree on Earth, we’ve created a capitol city where denizens of all nine realms may reside,” Fraction explains. “Everyone’s in it together now, and the cast and flavor of the book is all the more diverse and varied for it.

“With the people of the Nine Realms only just familiarizing themselves with the new rule of the All-Mother, Asgardia is tangible proof that their new leaders can put their mythological money where their mouths are,” says Sankovitch. “Having a rebuilt Asgard is a powerful symbol to the world that the All-Mother are a force to be reckoned with and one that looks out for its own.”

One of my favorite moments of Fear Itself was Tony – Earth’s ultimate creative genius – in the Odin’s workshop. Now that Tony has built a city for Gods – makes you wonder what he might do next in the Marvel Universe? A high-tech surprise for AVX?

Are You Feeling The Fearless?

Fear Itself: The Fearless #7 courtesy Marvel.com

I am loving Fear Itself: The Fearless and the latest chapter only pumped up my enthusiasm for this series. Valkyrie has gone rogue with the Avengers in pursuit. The Asgardian warrior woman is racing around the world against the evil forces of Sin to recover the mystical weapons in the aftermath of Fear Itself.

This series is a showcase for one of the most underrated characters in the Marvel Universe. The writers show Valkyrie in action against her own teammates, pivotal moments from her life in Asgard as Odin’s shieldmaiden and emotional moments on Earth during the Fear Itself crisis. I’m thrilled to see this character get the spotlight she deserves.

Cullen Bun is scripting from a story developed by Matt Fraction, Chris Yost and himself. Paul Pelletier and Mark Bagley provide the art while Arthur Adams continues to deliver one awesome cover after another of action and monsters.

This issue features the Avengers in what looks like a flashback from the X-Men Inferno epic, a bloody showdown between Wolverine and Crossbones, a huge betrayal and new alliance of evil.

I just can’t wait for what I hope is a Valkyrie/Sin throwdown. Teasers say Valkyrie will raid the X-Men’s home base next. You can browse all the issues so far at this Marvel.com link.
