Captain America: The Winter Soldier is almost here. The latest adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe pits Steve Rogers against ruthless new enemies and a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. Here’s what you need to know to catch up and be ready for the sequel:

 

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) was a skinny kid from Brooklyn with a big heart, sense of honor and desire to serve his country in World War II. Given the code name Captain America – Steve would defeat the Red Skull’s Hydra invasion but with a price. Steve crashed the Hydra plane into the ice and would be frozen in time.  Steve was revived by S.H.I.EL.D. and would lead Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against an alien invasion in The Avengers. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER World Premiere Clip

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson walked the red carpet for the World Premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in Hollywood.

 

Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Colbie Smulders, Frank Grillo and cast members from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also were greeted by fans.

 

Emily Van Camp (Revenge) was at the event but so far no clips of her character, Sharon Carter aka Agent 13, love interest of Steve Rogers.

 

Captain America (Evans) and Falcon (Mackie) leap and soar into action in this new clip shown at the red carpet premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. ANTHONY MACKIE in FALCON Solo Poster

Anthony Mackie joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as high-flying S.H.I.E.L.D. agent code-named Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

 

Mackie soars in this new solo poster for the sequel courtesy Marvel.

Black History Month Comics Countdown Part 1

It’s Black History Month in North America and the United Kingdom.

 

I’m inspired to celebrate some of my favorite African-American superheroes and update fans on their status in their comic book universes.

 

These fictional characters are not as important as civil rights leaders, boundary breaking athletes, artists or scientists. It’s important to celebrate diversity in comic books. The irony is most these fan-favorite black characters were created by white males but by recognizing these heroes it might inspire new writers and artists of all backgrounds to push for new voices to be heard and give all readers more diversity in comics. Marvel unleashed trailer two for Captain America: The Winter Soldier with more action, more conspiracy and more of the fan-favorite Avenger pushed to his limits by a relentless killer.

 

Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. The two Avengers must track down a mysterious assassin known as The Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie joins up as Falcon. There’s a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D.

 

Not even Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is safe:
